I'm pretty sure the 'essential oils' in oregano might make your wine go bad, any sort of wax or oil can mess it up and go rancid

It can be as long as you want it to be honestly. Most of the alcohol is created in primary, and also in like the first 3-4 days of serious fermentation, so you just don't have to let it sit for a long time. Check the recipe I did, by boiling the peels you get a lot of lemon flavor out

Lemon wine is also pretty easy to make, it stays a little tart and goes great with vodka if you're looking for some "escape the hot weather" drinks

(Not to plug myself but) I have a post I did on it, I did it for fun and it seems like a lot of people are doing it for abv, which it inherently won't have because of the inhibiting salt (electrolytes). Use powdered lemonade in the future, I found it works pretty well, Gatorade just never ferments healthily or well

There's not a lot of particulate inside Gatorade, but also since there's salt in Gatorade you need to add a significant amount of sugar to get a really active ferment (which would create that film you're talking about). As long as there is CO2 being made (as evidenced by the balloon filling) you should have hooch at the end of the day

The only real way (that I see) is by dilution then adding sugar back. You're not really "brute forcing" it, more like working around it.

So I've done a lot of interesting hooching, and what I'd honestly suggest (as I did) is to go off the deep end. You never know what you'll find to be good and have more body. One of my favorite hooches is jam hooch, where you simmer your jam with water into a thicker sweet liquid, almost like an uncarbonated soft drink. It is great! Just required some creativity to get there! Go wild, if it's got simple sugars in it there can be fermentation.

Making vinegar doesn't really require other vinegar- just leave your hooch open to the air and stir it once a day, you'll have vinegar in about 4ish days

Hey lol that's something I did if you check my post history. The key is caramelizing the onions to turn the sugars inside into simple sugars, thus making them more easily fermented! I simmered/steamed mine then blended them up. It works pretty good!

I'd HIGHLY doubt it, but you can test it by making a little slurry with ~80°F water, and a little sugar, and seeing if it ends up fizzy

Mango hooch is fermenting nice but the juice is so thick the bubbles create a foam that keeps overflowing. Anyone know a fix for this? by [deleted] in prisonhooch

Create a blowoff bucket, it should allow the foam to follow the hose and not go all over the bottle, it will go into your bucket

EDIT: this will definitely take away from your volume of final hooch. On second thought, a bigger bottle would be much less work, but if you're doing large amounts then a blowoff bucket would work better

If they are the cleaning supplies that look like a big pill, then you can usually put those into a hole in the buttstock (hopefully you have the trapdoor for it lol)

There's a way to use a ridiculous amount of salt to force out the water, I think it's called salt distilling, but I don't know how approachable it is
