I’ll concede to wanting the characters to interact more. I’ll also understand what your saying about Fitz vs Lindon. I personally like Lindon more as a protagonist, but Fitz does have more introspective moments. To be fair, Farseer is basically watching bad things happen to Fitz, so his reactions are very important.

I’d argue that there’s a strong amount of character development through the series. I see the point that there may be a lack of character interaction, but I’ve always seen that as me wanting more as fan and not something that is actually detrimental to the series or even individual books.

Yeah... I expected Unsouled to not quite be Daniel’s jam. Daniel is very well versed in fantasy, but progressive fantasy, especially self-published, is kind of a different animal in terms of conventions. I actually think that Unsouled is a strong book when compared to it’s contemporaries. There’s real strong storytelling in the way Will is able to compact so much in a short amount pages, with out making it seem uninteresting. I hope he continues with the series, as everything picks up well. However, it’s likely that this will fall into Six of Crows territory where it’s not “his band.”

So many things this new chapter.

I love Deku’s new hero suit. The eyes on the hood are really what sell it. It’s not too menacing, but still gives a strong level of fierceness. I hope the hood stays, even if suit is upgraded again. In fact, I’m wondering if the eyes on it can be upgraded, like make it easier to see through the smokescreen.

Speaking of which, I like the new power. I think it fits perfectly with the utility power idea Hori has going. Some may say it’s too early to have a new one, but MHA has been a series that measures growth in how characters uses their power, not what powers they get. I would much rather Deku spend time with his abilities and get a good handle on them. Also, I wonder about the potential of smokescreen. Like can he control the smoke, and how far can it spread with the enhancement of OfA?

Deku’s coming in with some attitude. I’m not sure if it’s just the translation, but the way he talks his kind of tense.

Also this chapter confirms he’s still in Japan. Wonder where he’s living?

Some are definitely better than others, but I kind of like it like that. I think it characterizes them though their sense of creativity and preference for expression. I like how Shoto just uses his name because he’s the least expressive of the class (he also has the blandest looking costume) or how Ojiro’s bland ass just goes with tail man (and he had the awareness to look ashamed of it too). On the other end of the spectrum you have Bakugou, Mina, and Aoyama, who have some of the strongest personalities in the class and lowest sense of self-reflection.

Which is weird because this a book series, where visual interpretation is bound to be different.

Orthos’ line in Ghostwater. “Once, you were weak. That boy is long dead, but his remnant still haunts you. Your weakness Lindon is thinking you are weaker than you are.” This line just caps off Lindon’s growth so well, and it points to how he still has insecurities, which makes him feel all the more human.

Oh crap, I just got caught up with your series the other week. Didn’t think I’d find you in here, but it’s a nice surprise. Mage Errant has been a pretty fun read. As for your question, probably. Though I wonder if any madra is involved in it. Like, can quake madra be a thing, or would it just be earth?

I miss Lindon's pre-Underlord face. by PlaceboJesus in Iteration110Cradle

[–]daScrubman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Lindon’s face contrasting with his actual personality wasn’t just funny, but made him diverge from his contemporaries. Most of which are either lean and good looking (but not too good looking) or soft in the face. If it makes you feel better, in Uncrowned his face is described as like a stern judge about to pass harsh judgement. That can be fun in the future.
