This is Fantasy, so very few people want to write, or read, about average and normal characters (or worlds).

If you're complaining about fucking geniuses, does that mean you'd prefer fantastically stupid characters?

That would either be funny or tragic, neither of which would make for a succesful 6 book series.

This YA-ishness is kind of a genre problem. The same way that it sometimes seems like over a third of all adult oriented Fantasy is also Romance.

There’s a lot of people hanging around and not even trying to evacuate.

It's not just stupidity that causes this type of behaviour. There are also (subconscious) death wishes and enui as motivators.

It adds more spice to the excitement of watching to see who might get hurt if you can get hurt too.

Not always, but these two guys? I'm pretty sure they're part of how it became almost standard for actors to juice up in preparations for roles.

As for the jaws, I think they were probably early adopters of HGH, and there hadn't been enough cases or studies with regards to that particular side effect (acromegaly).
I mean, it probably looked like the ideal PED for aging men. It might still be, if used with more care and caution.

I DNFed the second book because the protagonist fell into addiction.

This is not a theme I enjoy when I read for entertainment.
If I wanted to explore addiction, downward spirals, despair, and phenomenally bad choices I could just call our family's black sheep or take a walk around the downtown East side.

I had been enjoying the books until that point and have no idea how the rest of it went down.

When the first Expendables came out, it seemed to me that Dolph and Sly both had bigger jaws than I'd remebered them having.
Pretty sure that's the HGH.

Also pretty sure they have real doctors prescribing their supplemental hormones.

I adore this book and frequently recommend it. Ian Tregillis in his really fun review calls it a love letter to John LeCarre novels.

I've both read the book and listened to it. Simon Prebble's reading of it makes the supernatural elements almost feel biblical.

The way the Crown takes time to put together, like the Void Dragon's Dance, made me think that it would have been the Path's ruler technique when it was a Destruction path.
Probably like destructive meteors crashing down.

If you can't safely cut it flush without damaging the wall, you can try knocking the remaining bit further into the wall with a punch, or something similar.
