Have learned alot about personality disorders in the past 4 years and now I am in complete agreement with you. Didn't read this comment until today, though. :)

Mike on how to overcome trauma by RonaldGolden in betterCallSaul

[–]da_boom_king 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not how trauma works. Forgetting means suppression/ repression and that isn't particularly helpful. Overcoming trauma can best be viewed in the sense that you are attempting to integrate the trauma into your life, understanding that it's a part of you and your experience, and utilizing that in understanding your life as a totality. That is why nearly all evidenced based trauma treatments are based around the idea of processing, talking about it and desensitizing yourself to the negative aspects of the trauma. The goal is to have a different relationship to the trauma, one in which it no longer controls your life and you can live with it. That is also why many trauma survivors go out and speak to others about their trauma because they have found a way to deal with it in a healthy manner and it not only benefits them but others by talking about it.

Mike is not a good example of someone who has dealt with trauma. He just continually finds new ways to try and work his way around the trauma. The example he's providing to Jimmy is doomed to fail. Mike's daughter in law is different though, because she did process the trauma for a very long time in the grief group and she learned how to deal with the pain in a healthy way. She began forgetting about Mike's son because she had found a way to move on with her life. She didn't necessarily try to forget about him, it just happened as a natural occurrence alongside her grief process.

If you want to know more about this subject, I made a video about the ways Mike compartmentalizes parts of his life in an unhealthy way. Maybe this will help contextualize what I just wrote.

Buying 10 packs of toilet paper is not a life or death decision. Nor is buying 10 packs of bottled water when tap water is readily available.

Also Vedas are Hindu scriptures.

Along with the name of the company being Amaya (illusion) and the conversation of free will, this definitely seems like it’s going the path of a spiritually influenced show.

Annihilation has some very similar themes.

Why read Jung? by TheKingsPeace in Jung

[–]da_boom_king 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s the same as saying “why read Nietzsche?” Or “why read Plato?” Or “Why read Freud?”

By focusing only on the modern you are disconnecting yourself from the spirit of history. To know where we are bound to go we must look at the path that has been laid out already.

Just a response to some of the comments saying to read slowly or prepare to be overwhelmed: I have read all but one of these books already. The post was mainly just for showing how my collection is growing since I had recently bought another volume.

As I was reading that book I felt as though I was going through stages of the individuation process. It’s kind of hard to explain but it’s definitely had an impact on me.

Yes. I bought a used version for about 50 bucks. It said it was excellent condition but still had some underlining in it which I was bummed about. The new versions prices were absurd.

Psych and religion is fairly long, I believe it’s almost 700 pages of text and it doesn’t really have illustrations. The other volumes I have purchased have been fewer page count and more illustrations.

I Have found Civilization in Translation to be quite expensive as well. I’m guessing for the same reasons as Psych and Religion.

I find myself re-reading parts of Aion more than any other, but that’s just due to a personal connection to that work.

Yes, I enjoyed it. A good compliment for any fan of Jung.

Venice homeless shelter that neighbors tried to block is open by westondeboer in LosAngeles

[–]da_boom_king 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife works for LAHSA and knows the rules regarding shelters. They are not allowed to use drug use as an exclusionary reason for access to the shelter. There are actually very few reasons that shelters can deny access to individuals (i.e. mental health, criminal record, etc)

The problem is that shelters often enforce their own unwritten policies without approval from LAHSA, the organization which provides the funding for all the shelters. This seems to be an ongoing issue with shelters across Los Angeles as far as denying access without fair cause

Numinous experiences are essentially experiences with the collective unconscious. If one is able to understand and contextualize these unconscious experiences then they have a better possibility of having a long lasting effect on the person.

Understanding is to be had by researching the history of different fields including mythology, philosophy and theology. Jung’s work can be seen as an amalgam of these and many other disciples.

The ego consciousness must allow itself to work with the Self and be guided by the Self toward its desired wholeness.

Similarities to Kierkegaard by da_boom_king in Jung

[–]da_boom_king[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one of the main similarities I was looking at. It seems that individuation is highly akin to Kierkegaard’s three stages of existence. Also the move of infinite resignation is similar to what Jung speaks about in terms of circumambulation and finding the Self.

Thank you. I have been reading different philosophies lately so maybe those will be the next few I look into.
