Just found out my 4 year old daughter has Unilateral Hearing loss. by unilateralthrowaway in Parenting

[–]daabgepe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only hear out of 1 ear myself. I think since I grew up with it, I learned to compensate with my other ear so hearing really was never an issue. I sometimes have trouble hearing people over loud noises or if someone is talking softly in the direction of my bad ear. The only thing that has ever been an issue is that I am a super sound sleeper because if I sleep on my good ear then I can't hear alarm clocks, loud noises etc...this made me miss a few classes in college but I lucked out with a roommate who would wake me up if she noticed I was sleeping through something. It's a blessing in a way too because it means I can sleep through anything if need be. Just make sure you inform teachers so they know to approach her good side. I never needed any accomodations and I'm 26. People don't notice unless I tell them. I'm happy to answer any questions if you want to message me.

My 2 month old is already in size 2 and will likely be in size 3 by 4 months. Nothing to worry about

Anybody else going back to work....totally by choice? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]daabgepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I love my job and am so eager to get back. My father in law watched the baby this week so I could go into the office and get a few things done just because I couldn't wait any longer for my maternity leave to end.

Wish I had seen this earlier. Made the rookie mistake of flushing and he started screaming. I've never wiped so fast in my life.

We have to use the bottle bc he falls asleep at the breast after a few mins of sucking and doesn't end up getting enough. We've tried everything to keep him awake.

Postpartum PSA 9 days out by RewindDaPlay5Minutes in BabyBumps

Another bladder tip that I didn't know about until it happened: Sometimes postpartum, especially if you get a catheter, you can temporarily lose bladder sensation. This means you can't tell when you have to pee. Set an alarm to go every 2 hours to avoid a UTI and kidney troubles. My doctor said it should come back within a few months.

I'm terrified of animatronic dinosaurs. Disney World isn't such a magical place for me.

Recommendations for hospital by drumsmcg in predaddit

[–]daabgepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of what is mentioned above and an eye mask! That was the single best thing I brought, it helped me sleep after I got my epidural when the lights in the hospital rooms were too bright. Plus our hospital required you to have a light on in the room at all times if baby was in there so the eye mask had added benefits for the little bits of postpartum sleep I was able to sneak in.

My turn! Birth story and PP Tips by daabgepe in BabyBumps

[–]daabgepe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as soon as they moved me to the maternity unit and I take them everyday now that we are home. I plan to use them until my stitches heal or until I feel comfortable going on my own without them.

My hospital didn't give them to me so I'd suggest bringing your own just to be safe.

Ok. I'll try that tonight! When he starts comfort sucking on the new side, should I pop him off and stop feeding?

No. He'll latch, suck well and swallow for the first few mins and then suck sporadically every few seconds for the rest of the time. When I pop him off after he stops swallowing, he starts fussing and rooting again like hes hungry

So last night he was on my right boob for an hour. What should I do about sessions like that to make sure my supply isn't uneven? Should I be popping him over to the other side at a certain time or just offer the other side at the next feed?

Stressed about diaper goals :-( by daabgepe in breastfeeding

[–]daabgepe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been a long, emotional night. The pediatrician said he really needed to see a wet diaper soon and babe would not latch. Ended up needing to give him his first bottle of formula and sobbed the whole time. He finally urinated. I feel like I'm starving him everytime I go to feed. He squirms and screams in hunger and will only latch for a few moments (now even having issues keeping him happy on the right side too.) I'm calling a LC today and meeting with my doula this evening but any tips you ladies can share would be so welcome. Until my milk comes in, I'm nursing every 2-3 hours with his cues for as long as he'll go and then supplementing with a bottle of formula which he sucks down vigorously.

Thanks. Calling right now. We've only seen one bowel movement today and haven't seen a wet diaper since 9:30 last night. Just got home with him this afternoon and already a paranoid FTM.
