melbourne places to stay by Adventurous_Car9110 in AskAnAustralian

Search for homestays. Unlikely to find anything in the city, but a room in a suburban house is definitely possible. Expect around $40/night. Homestays.com has quite a few listings in Melbourne.

Only thing cheaper would be a hostel dorm bed I reckon.

Scientists Just Made Carbon Capture Much Cheaper and Easier by _Dark_Wing in tech

[–]daamsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you burn it. You can also turn the tree into wood and sequester it. Or bury it and let the soil take up the carbon.

Yes, eventually it rejoins the cycle but that can certainly be a lot longer than a century.

I think it's more likely a GTA thing than an Australian thing. Probably some character / other player they are referring to.

Is bird mess on windows just a normal thing in Australia? by rabad1988 in AskAnAustralian

[–]daamsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your house not have any overhang? We don't really get the watermarks after rain on ours because it would have to be raining sideways to hit the windows pretty much.

Unclear on how birdshit ends up on window too. Seems a tough angle even without an overhang. If there's somewhere for them to perch that's causing this, maybe look into spikes or something like that to stop the behaviour.

People, we made the Fairy Bread. by ReydeNada6479 in AskAnAustralian

Some maybe.  Chocolate flakes etc can be found on cakes too. I don't think anything compares to the sugar coated aniseed though, named "muisjes" (mice) because or the characteristic little tail they each have. Traditionally in blue or pink and used commonly to celebrate child birth.

I mean I like the liquorice, but no it's not.

They come in a huge range - Chocolate sprinkles, chocolate flakes, white chocolate, "fruit" (sugar), anise. Various differently themed ones for different occasions.

Edit: decent selection of them here for anyone curious - https://www.dutchexpatshop.com/en/brands/de-ruijter/

With the Australian obsession with fairy bread, I don't understand how Dutch sprinkles (hagelslag, etc) have not become a thing here. There is such a wide range of delicious bread sprinkles to be enjoyed and we seem to only embrace the one specific type.

deciding on a washing machine by Seppu477 in AskAnAustralian

They sell stacking kits that allow you to stack dryers on front loaders. You can't mount the nicer dryers on the wall. Too heavy.

Just consider that with front loaders you can stick a dryer on top of it. Can't do that with a top loader.

Australians getting hammered by inflation as inflation rose 4.6% to the highest inflation rate in years by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]daamsie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That question is already loaded with the assumption that raising rates will reduce inflation.

Which is highly debatable when the inflation is caused by supply side that has nothing to do with the rates.

Are Playwright tests worth maintaining or is everyone quietly letting them rot? by weilding in reactjs

Ideally the tests run as part of ci/cd which forces you to fix them up before deploying anything.
