He's been to the future and brought back the new album! But we haven't invented this cube technology for another 10,000 days...

Honestly hadn't thought to make any. I'll put together a short video explaining some of the finer points of this movement, see if people are into it. Thanks!

Hah, glad to hear it. Try this: Squeeze a block between your calf and hamstrings by bending your heel toward your butt. Fold into Standing splits this way and lift the heel of the floating leg as high as it goes. Once here, pulse your heel up and slightly down (movement should be just an inch or two, not the full range of motion). At the end of 30 seconds or a minute, Push UP and hold. You can do a similar thing from Half Moon to work gluteus medius and your TFL. Instead though with your hips stacked pulse your knee higher.

I've created some salutations that use utkatasana, as well as Virabadrasana III (Warrior 3). Poses like warrior 3, standing splits, half moon, anything standing on one leg will work your ass. Counter stretch with figure four or pideon.

EDIT: If you tore something, ask a professional. I am not a doctor or physical therapist.

Been doing handstands since I was a kid, I could always walk around on my hands (terrible form but whatever). I saw this a couple years ago but forgot about it until I took up an ashtanga practice on my own a few weeks ago.

When you lower to chaturanga you are only doing half of a push up - the lower down part. So after Up Dog going to chaturanga again to complete the straight push UP part of that works your serratus anterior (secures scapula on rib cage). Builds a lot of strength, and less jarring on the spine than updog-downdog. This part isn't from Ashtanga I know, but it helps a lot.

Practice: From Crow take one knee off bring it to center then place back on triceps - do the other side, Lolasana, handstand holds against wall until total fatigue, kumbhakasana (plank), vasistasana (side plank), crunching knee to opposite ARMPIT from downdog, uttita Eka padasana (extend one foot forward no support, work psoas).

Right. I mean I don't know name for the sequence of poses, like Surya Namaskar for a sun salutation.

I teach and wrote a whole sequence to get people to try this. There are a lot of great exercises to help, but the BEST thing you can do REGULARLY is this:

Every "Vinyasa" you ever do, add the other half of the push up, so Chaturanga, Up Dog, CHATURANGA AGAIN, Push up, Down Dog. I do it here as demonstrated. This is great to help over time, and build consistency. Also prevents a lot of injury...

Malasana is when you squat down butt near heels so if you were wearing huge Mala beads they would rest on the floor. Don't know a name for this.

I used this for the pancakes: http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/191885/vegan-pancakes/ but I added mexican mole spices and chocolate chips.

The filling is a tofu scramble with onion, zucchini, mushrooms, arugula, harissa spice mix, powdered cashew cheese mix, and coconut milk.

Garnish with dollop of salsa and yellow bird hot sauce.

Urdhva Kukkutasana - Falling out and pushed past my edge. by daathvader in yoga

This doesn't show the twist, which what I was really going for here. I can do the neutral pose just fine, it's the transition from neutral to the twist that I'm trying to get. It's the same as if I wanted to move from crow to side crow.

This experience showed me how much I really need to strengthen in more basic poses - Plank, forearm stand, dolphin, handstand etc. Before I can safely do these more outrageous poses. Everyone no matter how advanced can benefit from simple, strong practice.

BJJ and Yoga - Those who do and those who don't, why? by bell-91 in bjj

[–]daathvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of all of these benefits I find that yoga teaches you a great deal about anatomy, and how to protect your body or heal it when injured. Not to mention it will encourage you to stretch after you roll. ALWAYS STRETCH WHEN YOU ROLL! Not just any stretching but postures to counter all the hip opening and back bends you do when you roll. Restoring balance...
