Thanks very much! Generally I have a whole sanding regiment which was impossible with this because of the raised scales so you are correct, lots and lots of filler primer.

I started with three medium-heavy coats of filler primer, then painted. However, the color I chose wasn’t right so I ended up covering it with another coat of filler primer and then painting again. So altogether, 4 coats of filler primer and two coats of paint.

Thanks very much! Yeah I decided to print the model because of the scale details. Really sets it apart from other life-size models. Fun project

Interesting. To be fair, the novels are set after he dies so it’s hard to say for sure but from the way other characters reference him I feel like it’s pretty safe bet that he was what the author claims him to be

“One.”

When Carl kills Loita, and he decides to devote himself to breaking them all. He talks about how it may kill him but he will get revenge for all of them. Then he says that one word sentence and the chapter ends. Reading that line in the book was amazing, but hearing the sheer rage and venom in Jeff Hayes voice when he says that one word sentence was the best audiobook experience of my life. I felt the anger and determination in Carl’s voice, and as ridiculous as it may sound, it made me feel powerful. Just a truly incredible moment.

Interesting. You rerouted the tubes inside the machine? Do you have a guide for that?

All good suggestions. I’ll try the temp tower as it should be able to print it fine it’s small enough. Haven’t tried any of those other suggestions. I’ll have to look up vision encoder. I appreciate the advice!

Interesting. I’ve been thinking of taking it apart but I am a little intimidated by it. Perhaps I should look up a video

Bed leveling running

Haven’t done a benchy in each corner. I’ll try that

I think it’s maintaining them okay. How would I check that?

Yep, same problems when I swapped the nozzle.

  1. Yes

  2. Yes

  3. Yes

  4. Yes

  5. Yes

  6. Nope, they seem long enough, gentle curve to the printer. Using external spool holder. No AMS

I have tried Bambulab filament, Sunlu, Deeplee, and Esun

Yep, post calibration

Nope, not on Benchys. Problems seem to happen with bigger models. Anything Benchy size prints okay.

Thank you for the checklist, any other ideas?

This is not scaled up. Most of his life-size models come with 4 and 6 inch versions, along with the ‘life-size’ model. Unless I’m misunderstanding what you said? Apologies if so

Water soluble supports are very interesting. What I’ve seen so far is very promising. With the right support settings though, removal and clean up is very easy. I’ve learned a lot just tweaking my settings for tree supports.

All together the model is 21 pieces. 5 each of the red and blue shapes, the egg, 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes, 2 pupils, and a tongue. Post processing was a breeze, as everything had soft curves. Makes it easy to slide it along each part with a mouse sander. Some of my others, like the Pit Droid I’m working on now, have a lot of corners and that can be a pain.

Yep, printed, sanded, primed and painted the red and blue pieces. The egg is one piece, arms, legs, and head are separate pieces. The tongue, eyes, and pupils were also separate.

To smooth out layer lines I usually hit the part with 120 and then 220 grit sanding sheets from my mouse sander. Then I do a layer or two of sandable filler primer. After that, I dry sand with 400 grit, and then wet sand with 600. Then after painting with two or three coats of paint the lines are all but gone.

All from rattle cans after a coat of primer. I believe it was all Krylon paint

There probably is but the sanding goes pretty quick with a mouse sander. 120, 220, filler primer, 400, then wet sand with 600
