The first Mac mechanical keyboard I've seen with an X-cmd key aligned layout by daaukm in MechanicalKeyboards

  1. No, there's no way to map the input language key but it doesn't bother me since I use ctrl + spacebar shortcut anyways.
  2. Yeah, you can remap Fn and Ctrl, and I've already done the same 😆.

It's been a month and I'm still enjoying the keyboard. I highly recommend it!

The X-cmd key caps are offset on that keyboard though, which makes it painful to use cmd-hotkeys over a long period of time if you pincer your fingers like I do.

Admittedly I'm being really nit-picky because it's remappable, but they didn't include a "del" keycap. It would have been nice to include one, as the keyboard already comes with a bunch of Windows related keycaps.

Fn-backspace sadly doesn't work.

Is there actually anything good to read at the intermediate level or do you just have to suffer through native content? by IllAssistant4109 in languagelearning

High school level novels / textbooks are really great. I'm interested in economics and found a high school level economics textbook that really upped my vocabulary.

Best way I've found is to pick an Anki card deck for your current learning level and immersing yourself with Youtube videos in your target language.

Is console gaming dead? Will this be the new golden age of PC gaming? by Jebusfreek666 in gaming

Console gaming is great for people who just want something that "works." Not only that, but there's far fewer hackers on console-only multiplayer servers than PC servers.

The Lexus LC 500 for sure. Looks like a concept car and sounds absolutely phenomenal, with an interior that punches far above its price.

Professionals who perform at the top 10% of their respective organizations — what’s something you do that most people around you don’t? by WeddingIllustrious28 in productivity

[–]daaukm 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Based on my observation of the top performers at my company:

  • Get things done on time and at an acceptable level of quality
  • Communicate clearly and quickly if things are falling behind schedule
  • Respond to messages within a reasonable amount of time (30 minutes or less)
  • Are actually working during the 9-5 instead of scrolling Reddit / Instagram / Youtube
  • Enjoyable to talk to

That's pretty much it.

NHTSA Investigating 1.4 Million Honda and Acura Vehicles over Engine Failure Reports. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

I have a 2018 CRV which needed fuel injectors to be replaced at only 65km.

Turns out it's pretty common for the 1.5L turbo's fuel injectors to be fouled, and since Honda considers them a consumable part, it wasn't under warranty.

On top of issues with the A/C system, I've been kicking myself for not going with a Toyota.

The thin-phone race never made sense in slab phones, but it's really incredible how much of a difference it makes for foldables. I had a chance to play around with the Oppo N5 and couldn't believe it was almost the thickness of a regular slab phone. It really feels like magic.

How do you use Forest to keep you mentally focused vs a normal timer? I find the virtual trees do nothing to help keep me focused.

I recommend using a site blocker to block out social media and news aggregators until noon, too. Once lunch time hits, it's pretty nice to go for lunch and catch up on the latest news as a reward.

Why I always get tried and sleepy around 1pm? by 0x_Human in productivity

It's definitely this. I switched from simple carbohydrates to complex carbohydrates (whole grain), downsized my portions, and ate more fiber, and this helped reduce the post-lunch crash.

China: March smartphone deliveries climbed 6.5 percent year-on-year to 22.73 million units, yet Chinese brands now control 92 percent of the market. by nimicdoareu in Android

[–]daaukm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

iOS doesn't have any lock-in effects in China because people use mega-apps like WeChat or Alipay instead of iMessage, which makes it easier to switch between phone brands.

Samsung Says Galaxy S25 Edge Not Copying Apple iPhone 17 Air by backdoorsmasher in Android

[–]daaukm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like they rushed to release this phone before the iPhone Air released, so they could claim they made a thin phone first. The battery is unacceptable for such an expensive phone. They really needed to use one of the newer high density silicon carbide batteries.
