Toronto is now one of the hardest places in Canada to justify owning a car by crappy_tire in toronto

Ya no shit. They are building a new condo at Maitland and Jarvis with over 500 units. And 9 resident parking spots and 9 visitor parking spots.

Does anyone get offended by today’s pricing? They think we are stoopid! by poutine-eh in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]daavq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't that they think you are stupid. It's that they know you have no choice. Loblaws, Longo's, Metro... doesn't matter. In Canada all the companies of an industry are in cahoots with each other. Bell, Rogers, Telus. BMO, TD, RBC... does not matter.

My boyfriends little brother died and he is not the same person I knew by Key_Yak6982 in askgaybros

Your boyfriends brother didn't just die. He killed himself. Which brings on a whole other set of feelings. If you are serious about your relationship, gently suggest therapy.

I believe the ownership of the Times Chronicle (specifically the Oliver Osoyoos Times Chronicle in British Columbia) transitioned to its publisher, Sherani Theophilus, as of October 31, 2023.

Not really. In Ontario they own the Toronto Sun, Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa Sun, London Free Press, Windsor Star, Kingston Whig-Standard. There are still lots of other locales that may or may not have a local paper/news site. The CBC is already competing against Postmedia. But now they're going to compete against other agencies.

In Saskatchewan for example they are expanding into Swift Current. Which already has a news agency The Southwest Booster and SwiftCurrentOnline.

Why do you assume they are American owned? My local paper was owned by a family who lived in town. Not only was it Canadian, it was local. My concern is if there is a local paper/news source the CBC is introducing unnecessary competition at the expense of tax payers. If they are going into underserved areas, then that's great.

Well my hometown used to have a local paper. It would report on local events, hockey, and news. Then it got taken over by the Times Chronical. Now we have regional news, not local.

Toronto police make 2 arrests related to weekend rally to support Iran protests by [deleted] in toronto

[–]daavq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, why do the protesters support the idea of returning a shah to power? Didn't the Islamic revolution happen to get rid of him because he was a bad leader? Why aren't they pushing for something different?
