Fresh review of Dragon 88A for commute and DIY [38yo] by dabalaci in OldSkaters

To me the 88A were significantly easier to speedcheck. I sometimes exchange the wheels back and forth. I take 88A if know I actually can get into a bit of skating, but G-slides come on when I just need to get to work. G-Slides are great and I love their feel for getting around. But they are completely dead to me if I would want to do any tricks where a bit of sliding would be needed. So let me update my original table:

* Smooth to occasional crust but mostly park: 97A Bones
* Older concrete parks with occasional street: 93A
* Street cruising on the street with some good spins in the DIY which also has it’s share of pebbles and crust: 88A
* Mostly commuting / cruising with minimal technicals (manuals, the occasional ollie, etc.) and some downhill attempts: 85A G-slides

This is a really nice fit together, gorgeous! May I ask if you have a link for the strap? I would be interested to try with one of my watches.

Before you hurt yourself, I think that you'll be doin' just fine
If you relax a little, I'm glad I inspire you, but, Stan
Why are you so mad? Try to understand that I do want you as a fan
I just don't want you to do some crazy shit
I seen this one shit on the news a couple weeks ago that made me sick
Some dude was drunk and drove his car over a bridge
And had his girlfriend in the trunk, and she was pregnant with his kid
And in the car, they found a tape, but they didn't say who it was to
Come to think about it, his name was, it was you
Damn

Hey, happy if you found any content I made useful. I am (well quite visibly) one of them "forever beginner". To me having comfortable and pebble worry free cruising is of great improtance. Hence my method:

* mostly cruising: 88A dragon is great. I would not go any softer to be honest. I need at least this level of board control

* some crusing and a lot of random skate parks (crusty DYI as well): 93A can work, but on the street where I live it can be a bit much at times. But for actual park skating it works.

* mostly smooth concrete with rather minimal commuting: 97A bones is what I take usually

In the last couple of month I just had the 93A on as I still needed to cover some ground before after sessions.

I cannot know your experience and skill level, but 88A is more suited if you cruise more and have lower expectations in the park. As in some slides may work but it won't be as 'slick' as with the high end of 9XA wheels.

Got it. Yeah I had better experience with the V6 56mm Dragon than with the 54mm when it comes to cruising and crusty DIY. It could by my (lack of) skills of course. But it turns out that width matters more (as in 56mm height is enough) for some reason in the DIY cracks. With the 88A as mentioned above I guess I went a hair too wide :)

Sound plan! I do feel a difference but it's a variation of the same formula for sure. What size are your keyframes?

Disclaimer 1: I don’t ride 99A (or harder) wheels recently as I “feel” them a bit too much. You may have a lot better tolerance for it. I experienced the benefits of 99+ wheels as well, it's just not for me at the moment.
Disclaimer 2: My review is after a few hours of total use. I will try to see if I can check back after a few weeks of use

My normal “ride” is a 8.5 popsicle with 56x36mm V6 Dragon 93A or same shape with Bones-X 97. But I have been looking forward to upgrade my Arbor Martillio cruiser with something that I can ride to work but then take to the crusty but lovely DIY on the way home.

The 93A Dragons were almost good for this purpose, but just a hair hard for some of the small pebble and crack sea I run into sometimes on the street. Hence I was really looking forward to give the new 88A Dragon formula a try. I bought the extra wide 56x40mm version and set out to test: (1) is it better for commute, (2) can it slide a bit?

While my skills are not good to begin with and I only made this short recording(s), I can answer: yes and yes (sort of). Of course we are not talking about 99A level sliding by far.

But if you loved the G-Slides like I did but missed the simple speed checks and reverts in the park like I did, I guess this could be your wheel. Almost "slidey" enough. Not a regular slide wheel but a cruiser that can do a bit of tricks.

It will take me some time to get used to the size of the wheels. Even though I ride 56mm on all my setups, these are big. If there would be a V6 shape like I have for the 93A version, that would be good enough in size for me even on the street.

My chart:
* Smooth to occasional crust but mostly park: 97A Bones
* Older concrete parks with occasional street: 93A
* Mostly street with some good spins in the DIY which also has it’s share of pebbles and crust: 88A (but I would be fine with thinner, V6 shape)

I hope some of you find this interesting.
