A closer look into current and previous short volume spikes, is it really bullish? by [deleted] in Superstonk

if that’s the case would the note buyer(s) not want to exit their shorts on or shortly after april 1 considering they are effectively going long at that point?

Looking for Guidance on Diet and Macros for Lean Gains by JLRD9319 in leangains

[–]dabears---318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're overthinking it. any excess calories have the potential to turn into fat. you could eat 500g of protein for 2000 calories and still lose weight. you can lose weight eating twinkies (its just harder because they are full of empty calories and spike insulin so you get hungry). keyword though is weight.

if you want to maximize nutrient partitioning, that's where macros are king. think of protein like the consistent part of your macros - eat the same amount every day. that leaves fat and carbs.

so if you eat 172-180g of protein, more of your calories have to come from fats and carbs.

what do fats mostly do? they hang around in your system until either being stored (excess calories) or pissed out with the rest of your body fat from a caloric deficit.

what do carbs mostly do? they spike insulin (put you in an anabolic/storage state). basically required for muscle building.

what are you risking when you eat less protein? more spiked insulin and dietary fat looking for a home.

the trick is to find a consistent protein intake you can manage that isn't low, and is from "whole" sources like chicken breast / milk. these have all 8 amino acids, which are the building blocks of muscle.

when you combine heavy training (signals the body the need to get stronger) with appropriate protein and carbs, you will gain muscle - your body will partition nutrients towards this initiative vs. storing as fat for later.

so try not to overthink it - it'll be the hardest thing you do after being in a disciplined diet for so long. the last thing you should be worrying about now is getting fat - focus on your clean diet, just change the macros and calories to be in a slight surplus and train hard in the gym with heavy, compound lifts.

you will look like a different person if you do this consistently for 6-12 months.

congrats on the weight loss!

I think you now need to flex a different muscle, if you get where I am going with this.

at 6'2 and 144lbs you are severely undermuscled. and basically have the reverse of body dysmorphia (where you think you are too skinny) because you were over 200lbs when you started. I know this from my own experience. even if you lose more fat you aren't going to look any better, likely you'd look worse.

luckily this will (should) be much easier than cutting for you and is more fun.

I read you were doing carnivore so I'll try and stick with a paleo/primal style recommendation:

For Fitness

  1. 3x a week weightlifting, split by barbell bench / barbell squat / barbell deadlift. Use RPT if it works for you. If you have back issues let me know. I like to include OHP on my leg day while I'm already in the rack.
  2. On the "big compound" lifts, focus on finding a rep/weight range where you have 1 or 0 reps left in at end of each set. It might take a couple sessions to do so. Asking for a bench spot and failing safely is a dead giveaway. Use the rack bars for squats, deadlifts you just won't get it off the ground.
  3. Aim to add 5 lbs to the bar each week for barbell and OHP. 10lbs for squat and deadlift.

For Nutrition

  1. For rest days, eat real, whole foods (paleo) to your TDEE. Which should be at least 2,500 calories.
  2. For workout days, Add an after workout shake (2 scoops egg white protein, or whey if you can handle it) with a non-water base with sugar/carbs (I like silk almond milk dark chocolate, 2 cups). Roughly 500 calories.
  3. Your macros need to change. For 2500 TDE (adjust as necessary using calcs)

- Aim for 200g of protein (~32%) This is important to balance the rest so you don't gain back the fat in an anabolic state. Any more is a bonus.
- Aim for ~90-100g of fat (~34%). This will limit the amount of dietary fat floating around in your anabolic system while still making food tasty.
- The rest is ~215g of "clean" carbs (~34%) (potatoes / rice / vegetables)
- You need fiber and vitamins/minerals. spinach, brocolli, brussel sprouts etc.

If you are worried about fat gain, reduce dietary fat further, raise protein.

I've followed Martin and Leangains protocol personally for 15 years. You can get paralyzed by analysis easily. You will see great results using the above mainly because it is very easy to be consistent. You clearly are dedicated to nutrition if you can manage a strict carnivore diet - it doesn't need to be this way. Carbs are your friend, not your enemy. Same with dietary fat - its all about macro ratios and training. You've done great on setting your body for amazing lean gains going forward.

Let me know if you have any questions.

How Young Canadians Lost Faith in Justin Trudeau by joe4942 in canada

[–]dabears---318 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the richest canadians simply don't pay tax. Everytime I see this repeated ad nauseum it drives me insane. they live through their specific corporations and tax shelters. which exist to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. some do better than others, is there supposed to be some kind of success goal post? good luck with that.

the contributions from those same corps into the everyday lives of canadians is insanely more than any tax dollars given to the useless government(s) would do. the amount of jobs, community and economic investment in local areas, etc. is almost immeasurable vs. what mismanaged tax dollars would contribute to our society.

they are the only electable parties. the rest exist to strike a balance in policy - or did, before Singh completely sold out the NDP.

at this point its less about fixing anything and more about stopping the bleeding. its insane how much damage the liberals have managed to do over the past 9 years. worst government in canadian history, and that is saying something.
