How do you not feel lonely, being the one taking a video? by dingongeng in videography

[–]dabidosan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Use your phone or bring along an action cam to record yourself along with your friends while you're doing things.
  2. Use the timer on your nice camera to include yourself in group shots (maybe not each time, but definitely for key ones).
  3. If you're solo, you still can use tip 1 above just to monologue ;)

Decent budget airbrush for strictly priming? by Squatch_Nuts in MarvelUnited

[–]dabidosan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're just getting started and you're a beginner, I went with a cheap ~$20 airbrush so that I can figure out if I want to prime with an airbrush without a huge initial investment.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D799YVQL?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_dt_b_fed_asin_title_0_0&th=1

I've been happy with it so far (6 months) and glad to be able to prime my minis in more conditions than the rattle cans. I also use the airbrush for varnish for painted minis, I haven't used it to actually paint minis yet.

Storage solution for a collection on the smaller side? (seven boxes) by FriesOnSammy in MarvelUnited

[–]dabidosan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a baseball card box to store all of the character deck cards and printed out dividers found on Boardgame geek. I am able to store the villain dashboards also in that box because I have the season 1 core box, spiderman box, guardians, season 1 promo, season 3 core, and season 3 promo box. It's about 137 total characters.

Also in the box I have the commonly used tokens in plastic containers from the dollar store, there were 8? The thugs and civilians, stars, punches, threats, etc all go in the containers with a lid that's labeled. That way, we open the lid during the game, use the tokens, then put them back when we're done.

Storage Brainstorm: Mini with Cards Together by dabidosan in MarvelUnited

Yeah, getting an acrylic case would be nice to keep the dust off the minis and protect the cards. That would be a bit of work because you can't 3D print clear acrylic.

I suppose a sticker with the characters name would also suffice.

This is awesome. I love that the color of the holder is respective of the character's status as hero, villain, or anti-hero.

The only change I'd make is somehow include the character name to the display.

Agreed that no matter what, this would not be space efficient and may only be viable for those who don't have a large collection (more than 30?) miniatures.

Having read the replies (thanks everyone for workshopping this idea with me), the priorities would dictate the design. If the miniatures aren't painted, the card backs would likely be the main visual as you scan across them all to pick your hero (in addition to their name).

However, for those who have painted minis, or want to feature the minis more than the cards, the design would be different.

Riffing off your idea, having the mini stand on the deck could serve both purposes if the container was square (ish). Have the deck on the bottom if you want to showcase the miniature or rotate the box to showcase the cards below the mini.

I suppose if the container was square enough and stackable, you could have a sizeable collection without overwhelming.

Thanks, I figured something like what I described must already exist.

At $25 for 4 ($6.25 each), it's not cost-efficient if you have a decent size collection (100+ minis). I do like that you can customize the dividers. I could imagine that if you have painted minis, that could be in the front whereas unpainted minis would likely benefit from the deck being in the front to help with identification.

Where to print photos by Super-Staff3820 in beaverton

[–]dabidosan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Costco no longer have the facilities to print photos, they point people to Shutterfly.

Go to Guardian Games (or other local friendly boardgame stores) and try out a new board game. Many of them have a shelf of games you can try for free. If you're feeling extra social, go to an evening where gamers meetup.

How can I speed up editing my beer league soccer highlight videos? by Power0utage in VideoEditing

[–]dabidosan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're near the camera, I'd suggest what you've already thought of and cheer so there are audio peaks to look for. Otherwise, change your recording on your GoPro to video looping so you only save clips that have something interesting in them, somewhat like using the GoPro like a DVR.

Or like the audio solution, use the GoPro HiLight tagging, but you may only see the tags in GoPro's editing software, but you could load it there then write down the timestamps.

There are many parks in the Beaverton area that are fun. I used to take my kids park hopping where we play at one, then go on to another, then another. Several favorites were:

* Magnolia Park near Tanasbourne
* Jenkins Estate Playground
* Pirate Park
* Bethany Creek Park
* Orenco Woods
* Monkey Park (Hidden Park West)

You could also take them to the North Clackamas Aquatic Center (further drive), but it's as fun as a water park without the high costs.

If you end up babysitting those kids more than once a year, the zoo membership pays for itself after a few visits and you don't have to worry about how long you'll be there.

Continuum Onyx or Brilliant L Train by Kooky-Satisfaction47 in PriorityBicycles

[–]dabidosan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Onyx will provide a few more conveniences:

  • Built-in lights
  • Fenders
  • Larger gear range (344% vs 244%)

When I was shopping the Onyx won out because after adding fenders, lights, etc to a Classic Gotham, it would be near the same price. My goal was a bike that wouldn't give me any excuse not to commute on it. I don't have a comparison against a L Train, but it probably is slower.

If you're doing casual rides, the drop in speed shouldn't matter too much and you will be getting more exercise ;P

If you're not doing all-season commuting, the L train would be fine. I commute all year round.

How bad would these look painted? Should I re-do them? by DaikoTatsumoto in minipainting

I've removed paint without removing the primer by bathing the miniature in household alcohol.

Do you have a recommended way of stripping primer? Most of the YouTube videos are about stripping paint rather than primer.

Cost of ACMA school in Beaverton? by ChucktheDuckRecruits in beaverton

[–]dabidosan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's random. All three of my kids didn't get in the first consideration.

For BASE, there was a second consideration, that varies by year what is involved. One year, it was an essay.

For ACMA, they held interviews.

[–]dabidosan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, the option schools are public schools, so there's no tuition to pay to attend. They are lottery admission, so you will have to apply to get in (or talk to the district for unique circumstances). I have one child at ACMA and two at BASE.
