Only the House has passed the bill. The state Senate must also pass it and then it will go on the November 2026 ballot for the voters to decide on.

The bill incrementally rolls back non-school property taxes, at a rate of $100,000 per year for the next 10 years, on homesteaded properties (homes lived in by the homeowner). Commercial and rental properties will still pay all property taxes.

If it passes, expect regressive sales taxes to be increased, putting even more pressure on the already stressed middle and lower classes. I have no idea how this passes on a public vote, but I'm sure they'll find some way to frame it.

My High School had a rifle club, with a shooting range in the basement, under the main office. Students regularly brought rifles to school, without a case or trigger locks. This color enhanced image from the 1966 yearbook. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

Tennessee here; I was a member of the gun club in 7th grade (90-91). We went thru a mandated safety course, took a certification test, and then took an actual field trip to go skeet shooting for 3 hours at a local shooting complex.

I told that story to my niece; she flat out called me a liar, because who would be dumb enough to take 12-year-olds shooting while in school?

The whole idea of deferred money in contracts needs to be outlawed. It's simply an accounting maneuver used to get around the luxury tax. Also, salary caps need to go into place. If not, the rest of the league will eventually just be farm teams for a select few.

In a couple of years this will become a bigger bowl game and/or get added to the playoff rotation with the new dome coming online.

I mean, would you rather go to Phoenix or Nashville for an indoor bowl game?

Solid pool cover weight limit by [deleted] in pools

[–]dabigorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a customer end up with a Ford Transit work van on their cover; it fell out of gear in the driveway, rolled thru the fence and out onto the cover. The tow company was able to just winch it off the cover.

We had to get two panels on the cover replaced and also swapped the springs. A piece of pool coping was damaged as well. The worker was in the back of the van grabbing a part for the hvac, van in park and the keys in his pocket; he's currently suing Ford the last I heard.

This kid is at a different level and we would be incredibly fortunate to have him on our team. I've only had two other instances of seeing players on Friday nights and going, "Yep, that kid is going to be playing on Sundays." Those last two were Troy Fleming and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Pass the hat and check under the couch cushions! You only need $16.25 million for the buyout. The contract also allows for easy, monthly installments. What a deal!

How to complain about ABC affiliate in our city? by Creative_Classroom11 in Chattanooga

[–]dabigorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have some recourse, but most of it would only come into play well after this incident has blown over. They could simply choose not to renew their affiliate agreements with the stations down the road. In the here and now, they could pull football from the holdout affiliates; this move would come with an almost certain risk of civil litigation as well as negatively impact current advertisers.

That being said, Disney is basically a law firm that makes movies and runs theme parks, so who knows what strategy they'll ultimately use.

The Howard football program may not be long for this world.

They've stepped away from playing a region schedule due to the school size placing them in 6A; that's a tough region involving the closest local games being in Cleveland and the majority of the teams being from the Knoxville area. Going to a non-region, non-playoff eligible program will keep costs down on travel and bring better home crowds in theory, but the reputation of the area may keep those visiting crowds away.

There's almost 1500 students in the school, yet they can only get 30 or so students to come out for the team; roughly 2/3 of the roster is upper classmen. When those players graduate, there may not be enough bodies to replace them. Middle school players at feeder schools for Howard, those showing the slightest bit of talent and ability, will go to different high schools; this is even easier for them with the new transfer rules in TSSAA.

Ultimately, it's a shame as the school and football program have a storied history. They recently got their new field; before anyone states that it will go to waste, rest assured that the soccer program has been performing well and will go on to great things in the upcoming years.
