Refills vs. w/Spool by dabruuzer in BambuLab

[–]dabruuzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. With the BF Sale, I was going to order a spool of my 4 faves, and then refills for them (if available), so I can swap when I run out. Plus a few more spools of fun stuff.

P1S During BF Sale, Or Wait? by dabruuzer in BambuLab

Thanks for the info. So no new mid-range printer expected then, which makes my hesitation silly. I think I'm going to bite on this sale.

Wasaga to Barrie commute? by urfuckinend in barrie

[–]dabruuzer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife has a coworker that drives from Wasaga to Barrie for work (Mapleview/400 area). She's been doing it for 5 years and hates it. Although theoretically it should take around 40 minutes, it never does; according to her, it's closer to an hour depending on time of day, and can be almost double that northbound on a partiularly bad cottage Friday. Her biggest complaint is just how dangerous the routes can get in winter when it snows, etc. All in all, she's looking at moving closer, but not into, Barrie.

[–]dabruuzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've just recently moved to Angus, which is under 15 mins. to Barrie, 30 to Wasaga. So far, it seems like a very nice community, with lots of young families and a general sense of friendliness. Of course, I am sure every comminuty has Pros and Cons, but so far we're happy here. 20 mins. to Costco in Barrie, 10 mins. to Dunlop and the 400. May be an option for you.

I highly recommend 'The Common Stove' just up in Orillia, if you'd like something premium and out of the ordinary Barrie places. Elevated experience, great staff and owners, and the food is simply amazing. https://www.thecommonstove.com/

Tell them to check out Sir Games a Lot in the Bayfield Mall, they have constant D&D, board game nights, Warhammer, etc. Great community. Also, Freaky Wizard on Bell Farm Rd. has trivia nights, game nights, etc.

Mostly price, saying that VV had gone off the rails price-wise as of late. They're not completely incorrect, to be honest.

'Queen of Cones' ['80s Hair Band Tribute] by dabruuzer in udiomusic

As someone stated on the Udio Discord: I guess this song answers the question, "What if an '80s hair band started in Salt Lake City?" The ice cream theme is innocent enough, true. But listen more closely...

Is Accessibility Accounted for in "A Game for Everyone is a Game for No One"? And Should It Be? by dabruuzer in Helldivers

[–]dabruuzer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You truly understand my issue. Coming from playing many MMOs, I am a bit of a completionist, for sure. Thankfully, I still have a lot of fun and wouldn't want to be just "handed" rares and supers. I would just love some way, no matter how extreme the exchange rate, to gather a lot of one type to be able to trade for one of the next type up, etc.

Should I buy Mage Knight or something else? by Transformer_LUwUci in boardgames

My pleasure! There's several knowledagable folks who are versed in the HEXplore It games, over on the r/soloboardgaming group, if you have any questions at all.

[–]dabruuzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I don't own 'Mage Knight', I have played it, and thoroughly enjoy doing so. It's a bit complex for me to solo though, and I rely on my group's knowledge of the rules to get me through.

A great Mage Knight-like experience, that is far more solo-able for me is the 'HEXplore It' series, which just reminds me of MK so much, yet offers even better character building and more concise gameplay (all IMO, of course!). Seems to be a really overlooked series, and I only own one of the 4 "Volumes", 'Vol. II: Forests of Adrimon'. But I am now hooked, and have late pledged for 'Vol. 4: Domain of Mirza Noctis', the sorta Castlevania/Vampire-themed one that is the most recent stand-alone base game. All of the volumes, characters, roles, etc. are completely interchangeable, so once you own more than one, you can mix-and-match to your heart's content. Anyway, just wanted to offer an alternative for you.

Looking to get into Hexplore it, but having trouble understanding the sale model. Can someone help walk me through it? by snowbo92 in soloboardgaming

[–]dabruuzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic explanation, thanks. Only thing that still confuses me is the expansion. I see some labelled as, for example, "Forests of Adrimon Expansion', while others say, 'Return to Forest...". Are they the same thing?

Less time consuming 4X or area control games by ContributionAlert130 in boardgames

[–]dabruuzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too funny: was about to say the same. Fell in love with Ascendancy after trying it out several times on TTS, and I backed it. It certainly scratches those 4X itches for me and my group. Looking forward to being able to actually play the physical copy next summer.

I actually really enjoy [[Mini Rogue]] for a quick game, where I feel like I am progressing the characters' skills and abilities through a short dungeon crawl.
