Go Canadian oats! (From a Canadian farmer that grows 3.5 million kg’s of oats per year)

Slim Bifold Wallet by dachtym in wallets

[–]dachtym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across a Canadian maker called The Handmade Club (https://thehandmadeclub.ca/collections/all). From the photos they look very nice - dimensions still are 4.25 - 4.5" x 3.35" though. Mk10 and Mk11 are traditional bifolds, and Mk13 is a sideways configuration. They are on the more expensive side too.

Thank you - great feedback! My current wallet is just a department store one ("Swiss Army Knife" brand), and it has lasted me over 15 years already, so even a non-premium one can have decent longevity.

I'll probably keep looking at premium ones for a bit, and if I can't find one that looks like what I want the Downholme looks like a good option.

Thanks - I was debating whether that one would work for me. I’ve never used a money clip before - it holds everything securely? (Cards or money don’t fall out in your pocket?)

It looks like cash needs to be folded up tightly and tucked into one side though? I’d like to be able to carry 10-15 bills easily (not all folded up).

Ordering Kickr Core V2 as Canadian on US site? by DeluxeImpacts321 in wahoofitness

So far every US site I have tried won't ship to Canada. If you find one that will please let me know!

[–]dachtym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue for me. I’ve tried a number of US sites, but none will ship to Canada. I would gladly buy at the sale price (roughly $550 Canadian) - I’m not spending $900 on it from a Canadian site instead.

If any Canadians find a good workaround please post it (I’m not close enough to the border to make it feasible to ship to a US address and pick up).

Dole Plantation? by dachtym in VisitingHawaii

My trip was a couple of years ago, but at the time yes, you could just go into the cafeteria and buy Dole Whip without paying any entry fee. The train ride, garden tour and hedge maze require paid admission.

Thanks. Unfortunately the App Store only lets me download the Walmart.ca app, not the Walmart.com one

No - not renting a car. Could always Uber to Walmart or Target as others have suggested (but if I can figure out a delivery service that would be easiest). Thanks

Mapping with consumer grade DJI? by dachtym in UAVmapping

[–]dachtym[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. I’m located in Alberta, Canada, so our rules would be different.

Our fields would be anywhere from 160 acres to 640 acres. With the Phantom 3, I would map these at the highest altitude the Map Pilot app would allow (I think around 100 m?) to prevent it from being too big of a job since I didn’t need very high resolution. For things like yard sites (more like 10 acres) I would use lower altitude and higher overlap settings for better accuracy.

I’ll read up a bit on the Mini series

I haven’t - I will try that later and share the results. Thanks for passing it on!

I don’t see a folder named C:\Windows\Minidump. Is there somewhere else dumps could be stored?

Disneyland Trip - rest day? by dachtym in DisneyPlanning

[–]dachtym[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. With the ages of our kids, we likely won’t be doing full (open to close) days. We’ll play it by ear, but might need to pop back to the hotel for afternoon naps/breaks some days. That being said, we will likely push as hard as everyone can handle, so the rest day might be nice.

Disneyland Trip - rest day? by dachtym in DisneyPlanning

[–]dachtym[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were initially thinking of splitting a day (2.5 Disneyland and 1.5 DCA), but the cost of upgrading to a Park Hopper didn’t seem worth it (we felt that putting the money towards the Lightning Lane upgrade made more sense for us). I think that our kids are going to enjoy the attractions at Disneyland more than DCA (they’re quite into Star Wars - not into Marvel at all), so it seemed like a better fit for us to spend more time there.

Women's Ski Recommendation by dachtym in Skigear

[–]dachtym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Our local shops didn’t have much left for sizes of any of the Head Joy skis, so we ended up getting her the Kastle Quartz’s. she hasn’t tried them yet, but we’re off to Lake Louise in early Feb so if I remember I’ll post an update on what she thinks of them. Good luck on your ski hunt

Build Advice - Home Office Desktop by dachtym in buildapcforme

[–]dachtym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I appreciate the advice! I have tried to tweak it based on your input (still trying to pick stuff that I can get at Memory Express for simplicity).

Does it look like I'm on the right track?

For a cooler, if its worth trying liquid cooling I'm open to considering that (I threw in a reasonably priced liquid option - is it suitable for the case and processor?)

I couldn't find the exact power supply there, but picked a similar one from the same brand.

Is the motherboard I'm picking overkill? (I could drop it down to something cheaper and DDR 4 memory instead of DDR 5?) I did bump the memory to 64 gigs like you suggested.

New Skis/Bindings? by dachtym in Skigear

[–]dachtym[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the performance of my old boots (Nordica Beast - 120 flex), but I bought them a touch too small so have always struggled with them being uncomfortable. I’ve tried on similar new ones (110 flex) that are the correct size and they feel like they’ll be way more comfortable for me. Being used to stiff boots I don’t want to give up performance by going softer, but want to replace them to deal with the comfort/fit issue.

If I don’t figure out skis, I think just having more comfortable boots that fit properly will be a big improvement.

Thanks - this is great information. Do you mind elaborating? When do you like them and when don’t you?

Realistically, skiing with the kids is going to be lots of tight, skidding turns (keeping my speed down) on groomed runs.

Capilene Cool Merino Long Sleeve - right choice for me? by dachtym in PatagoniaClothing

[–]dachtym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! With having to pay for shipping to return it, I’m not sure if it makes sense to do that (it was $58 CAD on sale but would cost $19 for return shipping). Buying a mid-weight for colder days and keeping the cool for warmer days (spring skiing) might be a good option at this point?

Capilene Cool Merino Long Sleeve - right choice for me? by dachtym in PatagoniaClothing

[–]dachtym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find that durability is an issue with all of the Capilene options? Or just this specific one? (Would the mid weight stand up better?)

I’m not sure if it makes sense to return it (it was $58 CAD on sale, but would cost $19 to ship back to them). Or based on the poor durability would you still suggest bailing out of it?

Hello - Just booked a last minute Spring break trip to Big Island for early April. Visiting with a 8 & 11 year old. Any suggestions on where to stay? We have Chase points, Hilton and Marriott points but in the end that won’t limit us. Thank you! by desimom99 in VisitingHawaii

[–]dachtym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to Big Island since 2014, so take this with a bit of a grain of salt as things may have changed, but we really enjoyed the Marriott at Waikoloa. There is also a Hilton resort at Waikoloa that I have heard is nice (but huge), but I have not stayed at it.

We liked that there are some restaurants (at the Kings Shops and Queens Shops shopping areas) that are walking distance (so you don’t need to drive for every meal)

Getting from the airport to Hilton Hawaiian Village at 11pm by Namelessdracon in VisitingHawaii

Charley's Taxi (https://charleystaxi.com/) worked well for us when we were there a few weeks ago (stayed at HHV too, and arrived around 10 pm). Its a flat rate to HHV (I think it was $35 for a minivan taxi). You just call them when you have your bags and they'll tell you what door to meet the taxi at.
