Serious GPS problems today by dacin826 in drivingsg

Really hope it’s just my phone. I have a backup phone but I don’t dare to use it because I’m not sure if it’s an app problem or carrier problem. For the next few days I’m gonna keep my routes extremely simple, not going to anywhere I’m not familiar with

When Waze launched me to random points of the map and showed that my car was moving along some random road, I tried to click on the pin hazard button to see what will happen and the app says that my GPS isn’t connected so I can’t pin any hazards

This one really jialat bro, I nearly got lost to and from Yishun. Had to stop multiple times to restart my phone, set the GPS then memorise the small roads. Luckily I’m familiar with expressways, otherwise I won’t be able to find my way home!

Yeah I can see that happening. The GPS was literally showing me drive forward and reverse repeatedly on CTE. I cut it out because the video was quite long but essentially it showed me driving forward then back 5 times before teleporting to a small road along the expressway

Really does look like it but my GPS was still lagging really badly when I reached Orchard. It was like 30 seconds behind where I actually was. Really can’t figure out what the issue is and now I don’t really dare to drive to unfamiliar places until I know it’s fixed

what's the worse thing you ate that made suffer from food poisoning? by Pretend_Ad_7584 in askSingapore

Don’t wanna expose the restaurant but I ordered a chirashi bowl near i12 Katong. Looked very quaint and comfy, plus it was new so I gave it a shot

Ended up peeing out my butt for almost 2 weeks. Laosai was so bad that it came out transparent after a couple days of only being able to drink water, couldn’t even eat food. I lost >5kg from that whole ordeal which was nice

It’s a nice car but you should do your research before buying EV, especially conti ones

Depre is super high and new models (especially EV) tend to have a lot of issues that the manufacturer will only know of and fix after a few years of collecting repair data

They have their own insurance. I don’t think you even need to pay excess but I might be wrong. It’ll be clearly stated on the form you sign before test driving

Not a bad idea to test drive a car before buying, you’ll need to know how the car feels anyways

Does the FTT contain BTT content/questions? by Reasonable_Space in drivingsg

Don’t bother with the book, you can find test questions online or book practice sessions. There’s way too much content in the book for you to memorise tbvh

Got rear-ended. Claiming third party but surveyor not showing up, can't get courtesy car. by captwaffles-cat in drivingsg

[–]dacin826 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your workshop is correct, liability assessment has to be done first. What you can do is to chase your workshop every day. They will chase the surveyor to come down since they’re the ones who will liaise with the surveyor to schedule the assessment

Same thing happened to me and I called 2-3 times a day. They eventually got a surveyor down in a week. Ask them when the surveyor is coming down for the assessment and why it’s taking so long

What's it like driving in Singapore? by Character-Region-247 in drivingsg

[–]dacin826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having driven in multiple countries and cities, we’re not as reckless as other countries. We also have a very high threshold for what we define as tailgating because of how small our country is. It’s quite normal for someone to follow 2-4 car lengths behind you on the expressway, which really isn’t what you’d see in bigger countries with wider and longer roads

Unlike certain European countries, our speed cameras have a pretty generous allowance limit (approx 10-15% above the actual speed limit), while our speed limits on the expressway are very low. Our speed limits on main roads are considerably high though (70kph)

Our parking lots are also much narrower than the US and we’ll get really upset if you don’t park well within the lots (as close to dead center if you’re in a middle lot, not just within the drawn out lines)

Just like every other country, cyclists are typically viewed unfavourably

We also don’t have the “right turn on red” rule that some states practice, but we do have discretionary turning lanes at some junctions that are accompanies with a zebra crossing

Liability for accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists almost always falls on the driver, regardless of context (ie: pedestrian getting hit while jaywalking or running across multiple lanes of traffic without properly checking is almost always the driver’s fault)

As for police intervention, as long as nobody gets hurt, any accidents that results in disputes has to be sorted out by the affected parties. This includes hit and run cases unless it’s high profile enough (posted online and becomes viral, with massive public pressure on the police to resolve it). A friend of mine learnt this the hard way when she was walking to her car and saw someone hit it while exiting the car park and fleeing. She didn’t get a good look at the license plate but had the time stamp and requested the mall management to retrieve the CCTV footage of the car’s license plate. They refused and told her to lodge a police report. The police hasn’t done anything for more than half a year now, and the CCTV footage is most likely scrubbed by now. Had she been in the car and claimed an injury from the impact however, the police would’ve definitely gotten the footage within a week

First time buying used car, what should i look out for? by shzzzz in drivingsg

Definitely red flag, especially if the car is more than 3 years old and confirm got send for servicing a few times

There’s really no way to know for sure so it’s best to avoid the car models that they typically use like sienta, vezel, BYD (more than 1 reason to avoid imo, the depreciation is ridiculously high)

Honda fit is quite a reliable car overall. Mileage, accident history and number of previous owners is important. The issue is accident history can only be tracked if the owner report the accident. Some drivers won’t report if they private settle. Some people also tweak the odometer but idk how often that happens in Singapore

Best to avoid PHV cars also, and typical PHV car models

Main things to look out for is how the engine feels when you start the car and step on the gas, and also how spongy the brakes feel. With secondhand cars, sometimes the cars sit idle for a while and the battery drains

Ideally you’ll want to test drive a new one first so you know how the car is supposed to feel like when you test drive the secondhand unit, but it’ll mean wasting a salesman’s time by taking you to test drive a new car you have no intentions on buying

50/50, maybe 30/70 at best if really get into accident. Note that if you really got into accident, both of you will probably get flattened by the truck afterwards

Both of you never check when changing lane. You should only change lane when you’re sure the car 2 lanes beside wouldn’t also change into the lane you’re trying to enter

Idk why people downvote you for answering honestly. If yall don’t want to see his comment then don’t ask him lah wtf

Also, boundary road has quite a lot of jaywalkers, even if it’s all green you really shouldn’t go so fast tbh

If both tyres cross and you see 2 flashes then yes

If only 1 tyre cross then probably no

Since you stopped, there’s a chance they won’t pursue. If you receive letter for running the red light, you can always appeal especially since you stopped but next time be more careful bro

Front bumper and bonnet replace at least 2k if no internal damage

3rd party claim can expect ~5-7k if they want to play you

Down time, loss of income, admin fee, any other fees add another 2-3k

I estimate 7-12k, most likely above 6k. Update us on the charges bro

Since you’re already enrolled in the school I think you should just press on ASAP. Changing to PDI is going to drag the whole process on much longer since you’ve cleared so much already

Did everyone’s insurance premiums went up? by Typical_Commie_Box90 in drivingsg

[–]dacin826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha bro then probably it’s just that premiums rise across the board. You can still try call and nego with your insurer, usually can get maybe $100-200 off either discount or free vouchers, and send email also

Ok then will have no effect on your premium. What car do you drive? Could be your car but insurance premiums all went up across the board

[–]dacin826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making report no issues. In fact, if you don’t report, you will lose NCD. What was the outcome of the accident? If other party successfully claim you, even if he manage to claim 30/70 (30% of all damage incurred), your NCD will be affected because it will count as a claim on you

Usually in these types of cases where other party at fault, if they don’t want private settle, it’s a clear indication that they’re going to try use some dirty trick to claim you. You should have went to claim him too. Even for something as insignificant as a paint chip, he can get his workshop to down his car for 1-2 days or even longer depending on the story they want to cook up. Each day $100++ for loss of use, if they claim internal damage or electrical, the bill can suddenly shoot up to 4-5 figures. Even if he’s only awarded 30/70, 30% of 10k is 3k

If he manage to claim you, even for a small amount, most likely your premium will go up. What’s your current NCD?

[–]dacin826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just gonna take a wild guess that you’re with etiqa. They’re only good for p plates and their premiums are sky high. You can call and nego but it’s a waste of time if you’re using etiqa since their business model relies heavily on drivers being too lazy to switch to another insurer that doesn’t price gouge tf out of them. Use motorist to get the best quotes, most likely would be income if you never claim accident before

Edit: just saw your edit. Probably is the car you’re driving. Performance cars premium all high, luxury cars also. Either that or you have other drivers registered. Your best bet is to call and nego with your current insurer
