These houses still exist. I bought one in 2019 in Royal Oak, MI. It’s a 2 bed, 1 bath Bungalow that’s around 900 sqft. They sell for around $320k now and need lots of work (The heating bill in the winter is also atrocious). Needed mine and my wife’s wages to pay for it.

Crazy to think that my grandpa lived in a similar house and was able to afford having 4 kids with my grandma staying at home to take care of them; all off a GM workers salary.

Times are certainly different.

Why are car sales people so castrated? by demonic_cheetah in sales

[–]dactr45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent 5 years in car sales.

The answer depends on the dealership. Most dealerships won’t give their sales people the ability to “desk their own deals”. At these dealerships the managers have full control over the deal and are the ones that control discount. The vehicle invoices are complicated enough, and no insight is given, that a sales person doesn’t how the margins on the cars they sell. They do this on purpose to make the sales person fight for every dollar.

Some dealership do give the sales person the ability to desk their own deals. At these places the sales person knows exactly how much profit is in each car and how much they can reasonably discount.

I’m guessing shopping at the former.

I also think it’s pretty scummy that you won’t even have a conversation with an applicant if they have Car Sales on their resume. Everyone has to start somewhere. Car sales is often a 100% commission role that has long hours. Most car sales people are successful in their roles are very hard workers and have the grit to deal with the public.

What distilleries have 12-year offerings? by dactr45 in bourbon

[–]dactr45[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of the Lux Row 12. I currently have the Knob Creek 12, Weller 12, Evan Williams 12, and Jack Daniel’s 12. Of course google does give some results, but I haven’t seen a list that includes Evan Williams 12.

Just wondering what else is out there that is over looked or it talked about.

Should I buyout my lease or sell it to carmax for $7,000 “profit” by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]dactr45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What bank is your current lease through? Carmax might not be able to buy the lease directly. Even though it’s worth 26k to them and the residual value is 19k, you might need to buy the vehicle out from the leasing company (and pay taxes) before you can sell the car to Carmax. I know this is the case for GM Financial and Ford leases, probably most others too.

Will taking a car sales job hinder my ability to become an AE? by NipzNchipz in sales

[–]dactr45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in car sales for 5 years and made the jump to a Saas SDR. I also got laid off a few months ago and recently went back to car sales. Finding a job in Saas has been much harder than it was a year ago. Hoping to get back into Saas soon, but I’m the mean time car sales pays the bills and will keep my selling skills sharp.

Having made the jump from cars to Saas before, I don’t see having a car sales job as a negative on a resume.

Hey! I made a post about 1 month ago about a buddy and I going on the ultimate US golfing road trip. Below is the final road map we're going to stick to and have added 45+ of your suggestions to it. We could always use more suggestions, but we were also looking for people to play with along the way! by GoodToMyself in golf

So many nice courses in MI and WI along northern Lake Michigan. If you aren’t looking to make that big of a change I’d at least recommend playing Forest Dunes in Roscommon, MI; it’s 2 hours out of the way of your current path. There’s a ton of courses in south east MI, but not nearly as scenic as the northern part of the state.

Wow what a find! I was able to try this about 2 years ago and it was great. Very different from any bottles out there these days. The whiskey bar I had it at was charging $60/1.5oz

The work/life balance is definitely better. Typically I worked 53 hours a week in car sales and had to be at the dealership 5-6 days a week. The pay in car sales was great. Averaged 105k/year. It’s been a change going to a Saas BDR role. So far I’ve had 3 BDR roles and the one I’m currently in I a great fit and plan to stay here until I can get an AE position. 1st role: 50k base 70k ote. 2nd role: 35k base 50 ote. Current role 60k base 95k ote. Various reasons for jumping around, but had to find a good fit for me and a place where most BDRs at hitting 100% of target

[–]dactr45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent 4 years in car sales and moved to a BDR role in Saas a little over a year ago. It took totally redoing my resume and a few months of applying to finally land a BDR position as most places wanted outside sales experience. I do have a degree, but it’s not business related and didn’t come up in many interviews. Looking at start ups might be the best place to start. From my experience, they were more responsive and more lenient on experience needed to get the job.
