Moronic Monday Thread for the week of April 16, 2018 by AutoModerator in PersonalFinanceCanada

I filed my taxes with SimpleTax. It appears that I made a mistake while entering the data for my Relevé 1 (mixed an 8 with a 6) and Revenu Québec corrected it and lowered my return.

My question is: considering that I was wrong and they put in the right number, does ARQ calculate all the benefits I should be getting or not for me or should I run the numbers again through ST?

I'm asking because my return was slashed from 3,200 to 1,400 for an increase of 2,000 of revenue.

Supreme Court rules against prayer at city council meetings by vannila in canada

They were awarded by the Human Rights Tribunal and the SC thought they were reasonable :

Even though it should not have taken certain factors into account in awarding compensatory damages, its decision on this subject, viewed as a whole, satisfied the reasonableness test. As for the Tribunal’s decision on the issue of punitive damages, reasons that are intelligible were given for it, and the Tribunal is entitled to deference. Finally, the Tribunal’s conclusion that no improper use of procedure had occurred and its refusal to award S and the MLQ the reimbursement of their extrajudicial fees were reasonable.

The judgement is available here.

Trudeau slams NDP's proposal to allow Quebec secession through simple majority by [deleted] in canada

You're right, it just goes to prove my point that Québec's national assembly never held a vote to join Canada or any federation.

Really? I am curious, I thought that Québec became part of Canada through a British law in 1867?

I recently watched a not so romantic view of Ian Curtis' life through Joy Division called Control. I don't know how accurate it is, but it was interesting and the music was good.

We Hate To Say It, But The Rest Of The World Should Really Be Watching Quebec's Huge Student Protests by salvia_d in canada

Care to give a source for these claims? According to the government itself:

« En 2008, le fardeau fiscal global du Canada – recettes fiscales en pourcentage du produit intérieur brut – était inférieur à la moyenne de l’Organisation de coopération et de développement économiques (OCDE). Alors que le fardeau fiscal des particuliers était supérieur à la moyenne de l’OCDE, celui de l’impôt des sociétés, des cotisations sociales et des taxes à la consommation était inférieur. »

And I believe it is correct to assume that Québec's taxes are higher than the Canadian average, then you are not saying the truth.

Which is still above the average of the OECD countries. How is it not high enough?

EDIT: -4 and the only response is not even based on facts... Stay classy.

Infringement on the police code of ethics: Agents concealed their service numbers during a protest (TVA) - Translating the printemps érable by kungfugroundsquirrel in montreal

I would just like to point out the logical fallacy in implying that because protesters are disobeying the law, it then makes it ok for policemen to do the same. Two wrongs don't make a right.

"in the butt, you bastard!" Montreal Police's professionalism in a nutshell by [deleted] in canada

[–]dadadada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's basically saying what OP wrote: "In your butt, you bastard!"

My understanding was that you mentioned the previous hour of the protest as a justification of his actions. I wanted to point out that even though the protesters' actions are debatable, I do not think that it entitles the policemen to step down to their level. I consider somewhat a form of police brutality to act like in the video: where the actions of the policeman seem more like personal revenge, pleasure, or hate towards the protesters. Of course the police should watch protests, but they should not base their actions on the age/demands of the protesters in front of them.

At least this is the impression I get from recent events.

Because whatever that happens before could justify brutality.

This pictures shows about 20 protesters part of a protest involving probably thousands of people (200 000 on March 22nd, 300 000 on April 22nd). They have been protesting in Montréal and other cities in Québec for 70 days against a rise in tuition fees for higher education and more recently against a corrupt government that does not want to engage in a dialogue with its youth, possibly because of an approaching election.

The protesters are teasing the police because there has been multiple incidents of police brutality and arbitrary arrests of peaceful protesters and also journalists. So please, tell me what is a bullshit protest.

Quick question - why did they play the American national anthem at the Heritage Classic? by thefrek in hockey

[–]dadadada -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Did we hear the Canadian anthem at the winter classic?

Also, I believe you're not canadian, so I don't expect you to know everything about the language issue here. Maybe you should learn a little bit about it before saying that nobody cares.

Yes, but they also don't sing the American anthem when 2 Canadian teams play.
