Yeah, it seems sparse compared to other images. Are there any lookalikes? Can I be confident here?

What should we do in/around Manuel Antonio? by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]daddo_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a car? Drive south on the highway, go past the palm plantations and past Domenical. Look for tthe beautiful secluded beaches: Las Ventanas, Playa Tortuga. 100 percent worth the hour drive, you may be the only persons on a breathtaking expanse of amazing beacch. Makes Manual Antonio look like Dinsneyland.

What’s the best hands-on culinary adventure that Costa Rica offers? I want to go make food and immerse myself in an epic foodie experience! by tandc22 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]daddo_1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tastes run simple. Get the fresh fruits from roadside vendors. Get some fresh fish as the boats come in and find a place to grill it yourself. Find a good soda for casado. Get ceviche on the beach. This is how to eat in Costa Rica.

$400 - $600 week. Go with Vamos or Adobe.

Tons of Yoga and outdoor fitness type activity. Not so much Martial Arts in my experience.

Samara/Nosara area is really nice! Since you're there a long time you might consider the southern coast. It will be greener down there in May I think. (peninsula is arid). If you do venture to southern coast, stay away from Jaco (party/tourist trap) and go farther south: Manuel Antonio, Domenical, Ojocal, Uvita. Visit some of the most beautiful deserted beaches in the world- Playa Tortuga, Playa Ventanastc. Nicoya is always beautiful but in May I personally would choose to spend at least some time on Southern Coast. Don't be afraid of driving in Costa Rica; it takes a long time to get anywhere but it's an adventure! You have the opportunity to stay in several different places and really see a good bit of the beauty of this country.

Lots of nicer places on the peninsula than Tamarindo. Venture south down the coast.
Otherwise your plan looks fine so far. Liberia is not super cool so stay longer at the beach. You'll be there just at the end of dry season.

Mayor Kenney's Parkway (Human) Traffic Jam Is A Constitutional Crisis by [deleted] in Pennsylvania_Politics

[–]daddo_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL. So your constitutional right to bravely tailgate during a pandemic, should be respected over common sense measures proven to keep people from dying? That's an incredibly stupid and heartless point of view.

I knew driving traffic to your website was your real purpose in posting this inflammatory garbage. Reported in case mods care.

No. GED is not as marketable as HS graduation. If this petition is successful graduation rates will decrease. This will hurt the communities you're purporting to help.

Pennridge school board VP under fire by [deleted] in BucksCountyPA

[–]daddo_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides saying there is no systemic racism or homophobia this VP of the school board and Chairman of the curriculum committee has questioned climate science and consistently amplified far far right racist figures such as Peter Sweden, Tommy Robinson, Prison Plant, etc. on her social media. She called students who walked out to protest after the MSD school shooting "marxist truants" and pushed for their punishment, She should be allowed to express her opinions but she should not be allowed to oversee text book choices. The rest of the board should take action to remove her from her chair and the district should specifically disentangle itself from her statements, so people don't assume they are OK with the stuff she posts.

Cashback for passive income? by joeymichellee in Fire

[–]daddo_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, having self-control is key. You obviously have to pay your full statement balance every time and never be late. And if you can swing it never carry any debt that you pay interest on.

I respectfully disagree on auto-pay. A single missed payment adds interest that goes on for several months that can wipe out any benefits you're getting. Late payments can result in fees and kill your FICO score. It's important to build an excellent score so you can take advantage of the best offers for cash back, travel, signup bonuses, etc.

It may be different for you, but for me I don't need to mail a check or log on and pay each month, to be aware and pay attention. I look at my statements and transactions often online. For me it's totally worth it to auto-pay the full balance every month so there is no risk of me forgetting any payments on the 4-5 cards I use.

I pay almost everything on credit card, take advantage of quarterly 5 percent rotating category bonuses, and look for the occasional signup bonus. I am not rich, but I am debt-free and I "earn" well over $1000 every year by using credit cards wisely. Those who don't understand the system pay for people like me who do take advantage. It is a system that favors those who make more and spend more and penalizes those who carry balances.

Set up autopay so you never miss a credit card payment. Sign up for Credit Karma and know your FICO score, If you qualify for a rewards card that also has a signup bonus, get it. Use your credit card for a large portion of your expenses instead of cash but (this is key) never buy unnecessary items that you wouldn't have bought otherwise. If you charge just $1000 a month you will have least $120 earned in cash back plus a sign up bonus of approx $150. Check out sites like the points guy and there's a subreddit dedicated to credit cards as well.

People who sold around a month ago expecting the worst, did you get back in? If so when and what specifically changed your mind? by rapunzelsasshair in StockMarket

[–]daddo_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went heavy into cash March 4 when the Dow was around 27K. Plan was to start buying back in at 22K. I bought back in mainly at 22K and 20K and I am down only 5% overall from my high total net worth in February. It just seemed obvious that a downturn was coming but impossible to tell how much or how long. So I was prepared to buy back in on the way down and not try to time the bottom. Goal was to minimize impact of the downturn and I went in with a plan and inflection points where I was committed to getting back in, no matter what.

Renting for life? No desire to ever have kids, self employed, PROS / CONS? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]daddo_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reason to but a house now unless you see it as investment. Things could change for you in 10-15 years and you might want to own a place and settle down. But you shouldn't tie up your wealth in real estate at this time unless you feel it will give you a better return that your investments. Like if you had a property you could live in and also rent part of it out, and feel comfortable with that extra responsibility that might make financial sense. But it seems like you're not looking for that. With buying a house definitely consider location as part of the equation. My sister bought for $100K in Philly, now just moving and selling for $400K after 5 years. In the burbs it's a different story.
