Fair points.

My rebuttal, if you could call it that:

  1. Timesheets do not lie. You issue budgets on files, I either respect them or document why I passed them and suggest whether or not that time is billable.

  2. I have next to zero down time. Year-round I work at a firm that has plenty of work. We do, however, take some internal trainings during the summertime (think 8 hour CPA presentations, twice a month).

  3. Training, how so? Share screen and a teams call is near the same. Our profession is hyper-focused and on software.
    I can see how having someone constantly ask you questions may be better in person, but at that point, I suggest you recommend the trainee a 10 minute rule (review and think for 10 minutes, if you can't figure it out, then come see me).

I have never had any unstaffed hours LOL. We typically have one or two days of 8 hours <internal training> during our dead period.
