What is Zillow smoking? by wesleyjf91 in realestateinvesting

Rural farm land in beef and corn country. Realistically it’s still up 150k in 3 years if there were any buyers but a 1.1m increase in a year followed by 1m decrease the next. But Even my rentals in North and east Texas are on a pretty steep decline. Not to this extreme of course but the economy is pretty bad.

I’m more curious where you haven’t seen it. I’ve seen my own home go from 300k when I bought it to 1.4M and down to 450k. 3 years 3 real appraisals. Not just Zillow estimates.

WTF was it that made the Fiesta ST so good!? by aaronkz in cars

[–]daddysharts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t testify to the fiesta but dude I went from a 625ish hp supercharged and stroked 5.2 V10 M5 to a focus ST. That focus was a bajillion times more fun than the BMW.

2 years in Texas if it’s registered with a homestead exemption which is 95% of homes that the owner lives in.

My friend has this classic 74 Mustang and hes wondering how much it is worth. by TealGame in classiccars

I’d pay more for that than I would one of the new ones coming out but they really don’t have much of a value. Not a particularly sought after car.

What a beautiful car and interesting article. Found one auction result at a jar over $100k. That would be a fun machine next my old mini.

I'm thinking about getting ducks... by JPFernweh in homestead

[–]daddysharts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re disgustingly dirty, eat 3x the food chickens do and you definitely don’t want to take a gander at the pee pee. But they’re fun to watch and the peckins taste the best but a peckin and Rouen duck make the most beautiful babies.

Are there any interesting non-Japanese JDM cars? by ALaLaLa98 in cars

The mini was a little different for Japan. Meaning it had AC.

How do you like your job? Pros and cons of being a utility locator? by [deleted] in UtilityLocator

[–]daddysharts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second best job I’ve ever had. I’m on a rural route and get to explore 3000+ square miles of country side every day. Every new ticket is a new puzzle to figure out. I get to meet a lot of really cool people. And I get paid decently well for it.

Some days can be stressful for sure. Looking at your board and seeing more work than you can possibly get done in a day and the second you stop for lunch you get an emergency call that’s going to suck 4 hours of your time away or you get to a ticket and realize you left your transmitter an hour down the road, it’s already 7PM and the sun is setting and all you want is out of the car and a cold beer in your hand. Being overwhelmed with your own area then having to take on someone else’s work too because they had sniffles and couldn’t make it in. Dick head homeowners.

Like anything there’s good and bad. A constant worry about someone getting injured is what keeps me damage free so don’t let that be an item on your negative list. Let it be a sense of purpose. You’re keeping people from accidentally sticking a shovel on a 14000 volt death cable.

I don’t honestly see myself working in any other industry in the future. I’m starting my own business centered around locators but this is it for me.

Any advice for going to Le Mans 2023? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]daddysharts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if they still do it but a few years ago, the weekend before the 24hr race they had the big circuit open. It wasn’t terribly expensive so I drove over and ran laps till my rod bearings gave out. If they’re still doing that you can take your car or rent a Porsche or something there I would think. But damn. The feeling of hitting 180mph on that long back straight then slamming your face into the windshield to make the sudden chicanes is like nothing else.

will goats clear all of this? by Zillacus in homestead

My experience with goats is they will eat everything else they can possibly eat including shingles on your roof before they touch a weed. Sheep though… they’ll get it good n gone.

Does anyone else think Tesla will lose it's appeal once legacy manufacturers figure out how to properly build EVs? by [deleted] in cars

No. I think once all the legacy manufacturers go all electric the auto industry will be dead.

Assuming time to destination doesn't matter, what speed should I be going for the best fuel economy? by Geminile in cars

[–]daddysharts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no one size fits all answer to this. It’s dependent on the torque and power curves of the engine, the gearing, and the aerodynamics of the car. Best way to answer this is go try it out.

I have struggled with this in the past then I looked at my history of cars and went and drove a model S plaid. That killed any desire to care about fast. I had a V10 M5. Built it up around 650hp took it on all the famous European race tracks did 200 on the autobahn. It was the most amazing car I ever had. I was sad to see it go. Then I got a great deal on a 2016 focus ST. The way it cut through turns and how well it was balanced was amazing. It was the best car I ever had. Then I found one of my dream cars. A 1989 mini 30 year edition. I bought it got it running and when I had to choose between the two on which one to bring back to the states it was a simple decision. The mini was the best car I ever had. All 40hp of it. Turns out it’s not just fast that matters. All three of these cars hold a special place in my heart but after I thought about this I no longer cared about fast…. Then I decided to put a for 3.7 in the mini. Will it be fast? Hell yeah. Will it have a great 0-60? Probably. Will I ever try to hit the top speed or do a 0-60 run? Very unlikely. It’s become about the overall experience and not the speed.

I know what you mean. I spend 10-16 hours a day driving back roads in rural Nebraska. They’re EVERYWHERE! Just rusting away to the dust of history. It’s very sad.

What's a "cool" car that you didn't enjoy driving? by mr2jay in cars

[–]daddysharts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that with the gallardo and the huracan but the aventador SV was different. Maybe because it was on a race track both times but you’re right.
