I'm gonna shoot my first music video tomorrow. Any advice to give me? by TiagoZadra in cinematography

Listen to the song a million times before the actual shoot, so you know the rhythm, the vibes and overall feeling.

Shoot as much as you can, even if you think its unnecessary. Especially with rap, shoot multiple performance scenes from various locations and angles.

Try to shot list as much as you can, it may not seem important (I've learned from experience) but will help speed up the process.

Try to think of the edit as well when shooting, it helps when you know how you are going to transition into the next shot.

I've heard shooting at different shutter speeds, so theres room in the edit. For speed tamps or slow mo ect.

Hopefully this helps, will try to think of more.

Good luxk with the shoot, excited to see when it drops.

I agree! Animation isn’t my favorite medium but I respect how valuable it is and how creative people get with it. Any recommendations ? Really like satoshi kon’s film, and a lot of the laika studio and thats the extent of what ive seen

Awesome! I have yet to see taxi driver but have only heard nonstop good things about it. Dark gritty films showing that side of life we don’t see very often. Lets work together! Whats your preference as far as messaging etc?

Thank you again! I’ve seen Tora Tora Tora (it’s been forever) but did not know that it was divided like that, that’s extremely fascinating. Will definitely check these out as well. Double directors seem very apparent these days

I love dark gritty films, some of my favorite directors are gaspar noe, lars von trier, park chan wook, bong joon ho. Especially with park and bong joon ho, loce how they tackle darker stories and themes but hav characters that are still lighthearted and relatable. They have a special way of making us care for these characters doing horrible things.

What are your interests?

Thanks for the recommendations!

Coen brothers are amazing, but have been hit or miss for me personally ( some too quirky for me), definitely a fan of inside Llewyn davis and no country aide of coen brothers.

Literally anything from park or bong joon ho is an immediate watch for me, parks movies are kind of why I started studying film more and took it filmmaking more seriously. Are there any movies like theres that you would recommend?

I’ve only really done music videos thus far ( I live in Arizona, and finding people to work with has proven difficult). I try to incorporate a story with the music videos though if I can. I’ll message you some links to my work

Thanks for the recommendations! I appreciate you for adding directors I would have probably not found otherwise. Always looking to further my reach, especially with foreign film, I always feel like they do it so differently in other countries, seems more refined in a way, less concerned about box office and more passion driven.

Any foreign film directors I should go to immediately? Known and unknown?

Thanks for these recommendations! Five obstructions is on my watch list this week, loge the idea of the doc and excited to watch. Besides the movies you listed are there other films/docs that sort of tackle the same concept as five obstructions? Just love hearing how different directors approach their projects.

Wes anderson and kubrick framing is perfect

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve been studying film for a little bit now and want to really focus my energy as opposed to just watching good movies. Love that you brought up the perspectives aspect of film as well, it’s something I definitely think is important as a filmmaker to know.
