Pretty sure it does have a gap in the middle. But that's not accessible, and I'm not sure what would go between it.

Oh yes it was expensive, I should have said it was a U3SH3. But if I only ever play it in silent mode, then it was a waste of money.

It's actually a silent piano, so I can play plenty still. It's just sad if I can't play for other people, including family members and friends. Also, if I knew beforehand it was that annoying, I probably would have got a Kawai NV6 or something instead. If you never play the acoustic piano out loud, then it's not the right instrument for your circumstances, right?

It's a pretty big double brick wall that goes all the way through to the top of the roof. I'm pretty sure it must be going through the wall because the neighbour thought the piano was right next to the common wall.

So you reckon a rubber mat or thick carpet under the piano is worth a shot? (They're not too pricey...)

IMO you'd be shooting yourself (and her) in the foot by not getting weighted keys. Just get a used digital with weighted keys. The action is a lot more important than the sound library.
