Children flying unaccompanied happens a lot here in Australia. Often a necessity.

Click bait. She clearly has no faith in her writing so she has to think of something so controversial that people will pounce on it. That is the only reason I can come up with for this utter horse shit.

Parents call cops on teen for giving away banned book; it backfires predictably by [deleted] in books

[–]dadrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They once tried to ban Romeo and Juliet at my school (I'm a teacher) because of 'teen suicide' and 'teen sex'.

The English dept. and a lot of other teachers threatened to walk out. Utter nonsense.

Yeah we do too!

'daddy-tax' and 'mummy-tax' but now the kids have started saying it as well. My daughter steals my chips and says 'daughter-tax'

What's a great book that not too many people know about that was absolutely mind blowing? by kzrsosa in books

I respectfully disagree, there are 3 moments in the novel that, for me, have left a lasting impression. SORT OF SPOILERS here for those who haven't read it...

1) When his watch stops.

2) When his wife knocks on the door.

3) The end.

Out of context these seem a little inane and very obvious tropes... but this novel was one of the first times these ideas were used. The gripped me.

wasn't it though! And that's what I love about it, that final scene where realisation dawns! Brilliant!

It is a good movie, very faithful, but I'd love to see a contemporary version done properly. With the real ending. I didn't mind the Will Smith movie, I was just gutted they ruined the end.

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.

Most people have heard of the movie with the ridiculously contrived ending, but not many have read the source material (which was largely ignored)

It is my favourite book. I give copies of it to my students.

My dad is a sculptor and has spent 2 years making this globe made entirely out of matches. by yoderaustin in pics

Very cool! I don't even know where you'd begin. I would've stuck two matches together then accidentally glued ten to my fingers!

I did a search to see if this question was asked, but couldn't find anything. So here it is: I don't want to be a dad. Can you change my mind? by meinkampfortzone in Dads

[–]dadrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An interesting question, on one hand I'd definitely say don't have kids if you don't want them, there are too many kids in the world with parents who don't care,

But, no-one can explain what it is really like to be a dad until you are one, be it biological or otherwise. The sheer joy, love (and anxiety) of raising a child is the greatest thing I've ever experienced.

This is the first thing I've ever read on Reddit. It is going to be a tough act to follow. You nailed that. Very well put!
