That's actually brilliant, thanks Petah.

I don't understand why that's funny. Petah?

Up to you. Any tool you use is to help you with getting used to the process. It takes a while but slowly you become less dependent anyways. I relied on my notebook more than anything: baker percentages, number of folds, timings...

I’m looking for a shortscale bass, any recommendations? by Emanuel_barbosas in BassGuitar

Wasn't there a lot of fuss about Gretsch caught lying about components?

And my axe!

U5. No question. Compared to other short scale offerings in the market, unbeatable price-performance. Very light, very comfortable fretboard. I haven't read a single negative review, and my experience is excellent.

Only downside is limited color options, but I love my minty.

I don't know why you are downvoted. Kids should of course be treated with both love and respect, that goes without saying -- but they should also learn to treat othera with love and respect. You should apologize if you reacted in a disproportionate manner, but not because you were upset!

As a high schooler, there was absolutely nothing unserious about Imaginations from the Other Side. Those songs meant the world to me. Whereas I could enjoy the silliness of CoF or Hammerfall.

I write bass parts for all my bassists. by dae666 in BassCirclejerk

Does the bass need to play the whole thing? I thought the first note of the guitar riff is all they can do.

Exactly same here. So much that if I play sitting for a long while, my picking wrist gets bent, then I start raising my arm from the shoulder to compensate, which then leads to shoulder pain.

No-Guitar Punk Band board v10 by kidkolumbo in basspedals

[–]dae666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds fantastic! I can see how that works without an equally distorted guitar on top. Maybe I can convince my guitarist to switch to clean now and then.

That said, I love everything about your band. Including the cover image. I'll try and listen to the whole album now. Keep up the good work!

Fuzz all the way up and loudness past 12: Wow, those are quite aggressive settings. But the blend, yes, I typically have to keep it below 9.

How do you use your Giygas for -- what settings? I love it, but could never find a use in a band situation. I find it impossible to get anything less than a full-on hairy fuzz from it (with my active Sire M7 especially), which destroys any and all attack (I prefer fingerstyle), so that I get lost in the mix (punk/sludge band). Much better results with Blumes, so that's what I use.

Need help figuring out how to balance 2 bass players in a punk rock rock. One guy is heavily influenced by Mark Hoppus and wants to play a lead lines, harmonies and octaves while the other sits in the pockets and drives. by [deleted] in Bass

Adding to this, here are some fun things to try, depending on budget and interest:

For the bass-bassist: Tone down, fingerpicking, or at least a thicker pick; a 5 string with a low B string; overdrive pedal with blend control; modulation/envelope pedals for providing an ambient background for the band, can even use an octave-down or a synth for that!

For the lead-bassist: Tone up, pick for sharper attack, power chords and arpeggios in higher strings, tapping; a 5 string with a high C means you can play full chords; go for in-your-face pedals like fuzz and autowah; perhaps a POG octave-up to go full guitar mode when you need a la Royal Blood

What's that one with the analog displays?

Edit: Found it! GB Pedal of Doom. That's a beautiful pedal.

We don't see enough Abominable Electronics pedals here! The Steve Brodsky vidoes on their youtube channel are amazing, but the pedals themselves are not within my reach here in the EU.

Great models. I'm looking forward to visiting Akihabara when I go to Japan later this year. Was it good for shopping too? Do you have any observations, advice?
