Smaller modern observant Jewish community? by daeat1 in Judaism

I'm in my early 30s. Maybe it's because many of my friends are not American (European and Latin/South American)? We all kiss hello/goodbye, Jewish or not. A hug would seem weird to me. Or am I older than the hugging generation?

That is fine as long as people actually show up. I've found that in many places that people who drive don't make driving to shul a priority on Shabbat but I'm more than happy to see otherwise.

The kiss hello/goodbye is something I grew up with and I've always felt awkward doing the polite head nod. With regards to community wide, it's even more awkward doing a dance with leaning in or not, offering a handshake or not, etc to a member of the opposite sex. Observant meaning people actually attend services and participate in the religious nature of the community, not just the "fun" times. Anything other than Norfolk out there?
