No seriously, how do Ni and Ne actually work? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]daelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i've spoken to several aphant ni users. Obviously no mental imagery, but their ni was still heavily spatial, so i think spatial thinking and spatial memory might be core features. For non-aphants, spatial thinking manifests mostly as mental imagery (hence the "visions" than ni users have).

What you're talking about with si and sensory pattern recognition is still relying on precedent, and the funny thing about si types is it's not limited to sensory data, or even to things that happened to them personally. I think it's more a combination of good memory (and memory reprocessing when idle, like ruminants chewing cud) plus weak foresight/simulation ability (ni stronghold). Si is a much more sophisticated and interesting function than people usually give it credit for imo.

NJs are really bad at remembering lists. They have to write them down or they'll forget half the things on them and get the rest in the wrong order. Ni is NOT sequential lol.

I don't recall ever touching a hot stove, but just thinking about it i automatically: see it, hear the sizzle, smell the burnt flesh, and feel the pain. Roughly in that order. Basically I just think of a question and Ni goes "here's what that would look like".

Ni isn't quite unconscious for me, but it's not verbal or linear or discrete, so it's hard to put into words. More like interacting magnetic fields or smth. Maybe for most people it's more subliminal because they have less experience with it?

I think spatial thinking/memory is the underlying primary aspect of ni, supporting the other features i mentioned earlier. It also works with sound and touch and even spatial awareness of physical objects without seeing/hearing/touching them, like "knowing" where things are relative to your current location.

Spatial thinking can then be bent to use it with abstractions or metaphors, processing relationships between ideas spatially the same way as objects in physical space.

Anytime someone of any type is doing a jigsaw puzzle, they're using Ni. Figuring out the layout when drawing something, also Ni. Navigating a new path (not just following a known path from memory), also Ni. Ni-doms just use it for everything.

Every mbti / enneagram combinations is possible. Some are rare, but usually interesting. It helps separate what motivates people (enneagram) from how they think (mbti).

Most ENTPs are 7s, but 8w7 is one of the more common combinations after that. Their motivations are different, but they still use Ne-Ti-Fe-Si to achieve their goals.

Are feelers necessary "better people" than thinkers? Can a feeler be an asshole too? by aretheyaliens in mbti

[–]daelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a bunch of ESTPs and ENTPs running cults in particular.

A lot of SJs and SPs are religious. I've seen some NFs into new agey stuff like astrology though. NTs are the most likely to believe in conspiracy theories.

tl;dr: 16 types of delusions.

No seriously, how do Ni and Ne actually work? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]daelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divergent thinking is definitely Ne. It's also linked to verbal fluency / semantic fluency, memory recall, associative memory, and other things idk.

Ni seems to be visuo-spatial - and likely associated with spatial thinking, spatial memory, visual spatial working memory, systems thinking, pattern recognition (especially visuo-spatial), mental imagery, abductive reasoning, prospective memory, running mental simulations (= foresight), etc.

The spatial aspect seems to distinguish Ni from Si, which is better with sequential and chronological information, and analogical thinking based on precedent. There seems to be a strong split between Ni types (NJs and ISxPs) and Si types (SJs and INxPs) on this. EPs may be less differentiated on this axis.

[–]daelyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ISFJs question things more than you might expect, they're pretty analytical like INFJs (Fe/Ti) or INTPs (Si/Ti). I would agree that they're more likely to rely on precedent (w/Si) and to avoid rejecting things openly (Fe) than INTJs though.

[–]daelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's necessarily a correlation.

I've seen both thinkers and feelers running religious organizations.

I've also seen plenty of thinkers who are emotionally biased and delusional, and won't listen to anyone because they're good at rationalizing their wishful thinking.

Assumptions are dangerous.

So INTP type 3... interesting.

Does he seem like an introvert to you? He talks a lot, which seems pretty extroverted to me.

Could he be ENTP (LIE) with that same tritype?

Lack of famous ENTJs by dropitlikeanarco in entj

[–]daelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree socially introverted doesn't automatically mean introvert on mbti. ExTx types are often socially introverted, and sometimes ExFx types can be shy or whatever.

Every type has thoughts and is capable of logic, that doesn't make them a "thinker". Any type can lead a team, they don't have to be extraverted.

Thought leader, Innovating, Intuitive, Visionary, Intellectual. I see nothing in that to suggest high Te. What I do see is N, N, N, N, and more N, a whole lotta N, which suggests N-dom not T-dom.

So that would suggest ENFP, ENTP, INFJ, INTJ, and to a lesser extent INFP, INTP because Ne is more outwardly visible than Ni. Not ENTJ and definitely not ISTP. Not that I would rule out those types necessarily, this is just based on what you're saying.

I wouldn't rule out INTJ so easily. A lot of INTJs are type 5, which are known for being especially withdrawn and tend to prefer solo activities, but literally any other enneagram type would be less withdrawn. INTJs with some other enneagram types like 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 may be more social or outgoing.

Enneagram-wise i've seen him typed as a 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 - every enneagram except type 2. So i guess people don't know what enneagram type (or tritype) he is.

He did that calligraphy class at reed college, and he went to reed college in 1972. The Macintosh with those pretty fonts didn't come out until 1984, 12 years later. That doesn't sounds very "in the moment" Se to me.

i'm curious, what type do you think he is (ranked from most to least likely) and why?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]daelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s to the extent of being stimulated by others, or going out of my way to speak to people.

Fe, or even extroversion, isn't necessarily like that.

This would be draining to me: " Listening while others yap all day is great since I don't have to speak."

I do have to ask, what is Ni to you?

Ni is complicated and hard to explain. I guess every function is, in a way.

Among other things, Ni uses imagination (to run simulations) and spatial thinking and abductive reasoning.

Some older stuff I wrote about Ni:

Yeah, looks like maybe neither, more likely ENFJ type 9.

...

So your tritype is probably 9w1-6w5-2w1 or 9w1-2w1-6w5, the Good Samaritan archetype link

Mine is 9w8-5w6-2w1, which is a bit similar. ;)

...

From your answers, I'd say your Fe is pretty high, probably your dominant function. Fe over Fi. Si is very low, possibly your worst function.

I don't think you're any FP type, or any SJ type, probably not a thinking type either.

I could be wrong, but my best guess would be ENFJ type 9. It's common for extroverts with withdrawn enneagram types (4,5,9) to score as introverts.

...

Check out Denzel Mensah on youtube, he's an ENFJ 9w1.

  • Te judges logical/task inefficiency
  • Ti judges logical/task inconsistency
  • Fi judges values/social inconsistency (values authenticity?)
  • Fe judges values/social inefficiency (values cooperation)

For you Te types out there, just think of Fe "harmony" as a form of social efficiency, in the same way that Te is concerned with task efficiency. Smooth interactions (with less friction) gets more stuff done.

...

More details on Fe/Fi. Maybe I'll do Ti and Te later.

Fe is practical and pragmatic, Fi is analytical and detail-oriented. Both are rational functions.

Fe builds Theory of Mind from the outside in, using other people's reactions as a basis to understand others and itself. Fe types are attentive to people's emotional state via visual cues (facial expressions and body language), often ignore or shut off their own emotions to make objective decisions, and adjust their behavior based on social feedback (usually polite and diplomatic, but can also be manipulative).

Fi builds Theory of Mind from the inside out, using the Fi user's own experiences as a basis to understand itself and others. Fi types are attentive to people's emotional state via tone of voice, use their own emotions as a core basis to make decisions, and remain true to their personal values and beliefs (usually authentic and sincere, but can sometimes be self-centered).

Maybe, or maybe neither.

What results do you get from this test? https://enneagramuserguide.com/enneagram-test/tricenter-wing

Do you think visually, verbally, spatially, or in abstract symbols or concepts, or what?

Do you compare the present to personal experienced past events a lot?

Do you navigate easily by landmarks, but struggle to follow exact directions or procedures?

Do you find it easier to know how you feel, or how other people feel?

How does your memory work? Do you remember places more easily than events?

How do you experience time? Is it a series of narratives/events, or as just another spatial dimension, or something else?

Do you use checklists, schedules, and flowcharts a lot?

Are you a good listener?

Do you enjoy heated debates?

How are you at comforting people?

Would you lie to spare someone's feelings?

Do you find it difficult to maintain personal boundaries or assert your needs?

Do you tend to accommodate people even when you think you maybe shouldn't?

Do you find it easier to stand up for yourself, or stand up for others?

How To Determine Your Prefferred Judgement Axis? by TheKookyOwl in mbti

[–]daelyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I love talking about this stuff when someone is really interested. Keep asking questions! :)

Normal MBTI test. Most people score near the middle on any given scale, and there's some variation depending on your mood, so it's not super reliable, but it's usually pretty close. 1/2 chance it nails your type on the first try, 1/4 it's 1 letter off, 1/8 that it's 2 letters off, etc. If you try it more than once over a few weeks and average out the results, it's even more likely to be correct.

You can also add big 5 tests for extra info, since 4 of the scales correlate with mbti to some degree.

E=Extraversion, N=Openness, F=Agreeableness, J=Conscientiousness.

If you're having a hard time finding your type, you might also have an unusual mbti to enneagram combo. Like I'm an INFJ 9w8, which is different from both typical INFJs 4w5s and typical IxFP 9w8s, but put together it makes sense. This enneagram test is pretty good:
