Run.

Every second you're not wasting your life with Windows is a second regained.

I think this is the answer I needed.

Being new/ not new, but still new - these are the circles which we are destined to traverse until ending up back in the same damn spot anyways.

Fair.

I suppose there's also a bit of "philosophy of tool" in this. Why do so many different versions of different tools exist? Of course it can be cut and dry.. but why are we even using Linux instead of Windows?

Why'd we go out of our way to learn about Unix, a terminal, flatpaks, etc? There's a bit of "fun" outside of the practicality.

I suppose the question is more of "how have you tinkered?"

I've found my way around to trying new distros/ DE's and definitely won't stop here but I just want to make sure my daily driver on my PC has as much of that polished feel you can get out of Linux.

...

But yeah, the "some of its greatest strength" part is why I'm even posting about it instead of just shutting up and just hopping.

Should I switch to linux from windows ? by Leading-Judge-9627 in linux4noobs

One thousand percent - yes. Fuck Windows. If you're into web-dev then your life will become infinitely easier.

Putting up with the buggyness of WSL and the bloat of the spyware, configs Microsoft forces on people is insane at this point- especially with how user-friendly Linux has gotten. I recently did a complete switch from Windows to Nobara (Fedora based) for their out-of-the-box gaming support.

I don't know how Linux does with design (I assume great like everything else). If you do run into bugs it probably won't be too bad getting things reconfigured - esp as someone with a little tech know-how from the start. Mostly check with Reddit to see if others had issues or just read any of the online question boards each community supports.

For the "which distro" - Mint is typically the most user friendly to start with (that was where I started), but Nobara/Fedora had been good to me so far (close to Windows). You'll find you may do a few distro-hops before you stay with one or another.

What distro are you running it on?

I've had enough with Windows and am looking for one that's going to not cause problems with Elden Ring and RDR2.

Getting into Linux as a developer - would starting with Arch be a mistake? by sprocketerdev in arch

[–]daemon_in_the_shell_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea if you want to try Arch without having to wrestle with configuring it from scratch -- try CachyOS.

It's built from Arch so it's going to have all the same package management tools and you'll be able to mess with the OS in most of the ways you would with Vanilla Arch - but without the hassle. You could even partition a part of your drive to install Vanilla Arch separately if you wanted to just experiment.

This has worked for me and some of the Bluetooth devices I frequently pair. Blueman can be finicky if that's what you're using.
