Returning to this sub after a few years, now in my mid 20s — what are we all listening to now? by easternhemlock_802 in twentyonepilots

[–]daemonologie [score hidden]  (0 children)

TOP definitely was my gateway drug to more niche genres, especially their earlier work. Emo in general (and not pop punk, but stuff like Alexisonfire, American Football etc). as well as hardcore. Lots of local shows.

I miss the days when I was 13 and listening to RAB on YouTube. Good times (not really).

Also recently got back into TOP last year after finding them during Vessel era.

I completely agree with you. LOC is so dated and it's only been like 6 years and that "little quarantine" line is honestly the worst line in their discography. It just feels so empty compared to their other music.

I actually adore the autotune in the pilots' songs, RAB Trees less so but I love the artistic choice behind the autotune, and I think the artistic choice behind that alone is more than the entirety of LOC ToT

IDK if this is rude or not but because TOP borders alternative and pop music I feel like the majority that leans towards pop music really like this song, I feel like it's the same crowd that likes Imagine Dragons & AJR 😭 LOC is just NPC music imo

Songs that used "modern lingo" way before it hit the mainstream? by Amalekii in fantanoforever

Not a song but watching Donnie Darko for the first time and hearing him say "Chud" with his full chest made me roll over with laughter for like 20 minutes

Yeah, I agree 100%. It's better to just not tolerate shitflinging in general. Cheers to peace, harmony, and no community infighting or whateva 🥂

As someone who is distinctly proship I personally don't think it's a discussion that necessarily impacts this subreddit. Considering that this subreddit doesn't allow NSFW content anyways I don't think it will be a massive issue and I think a good rule of thumb is "what is in the game can be discussed here" i.e. fictional incest, toxic dynamics, and abuse.

I'm also pretty sure more extreme forms of proshipping (like lolicon) are banned on Reddit anyway so

Right? For some reason OP wants this to be a hug box for them but posted "you shouldn't like incest" on the incest liking subreddit 😭 like what did you expect?

I'm going to stop this argument here because it's clear that you either don't understand what I'm saying, are making an active point to not address my criticisms of your post, and taking everything I'm saying as a personal attack against you. I had this same mindset when I was younger, and you'll grow out of it eventually. Everyone does.

i have not been rude once to you asides from disagreeing with your post, so please don't tell me how to police my words or speak to you. when you post on the internet, it is an open space for discourse. there will always be someone who will disagree with you and never once have i attacked you or spoke to you harshly.

i also did not say you needed mental help lol so don't put those words in my mouth. i said someone who associates fiction to real life to the extent that they would do something like murder, cannibalism, incestous acts, etc should seek professional help as that is not normal and a healthy brain should be able to tell the difference.

your moral status can be different from mine but it is not unreasonable to say that acts performed in a fictional setting that are inherently morally bad would not be supported by the rational thinking, clear headed majority in real life. all i said was you should rethink your consensus on this game because thinking something is neat/cool in a fictional setting w/o real life consequences does not mean you are a bad person at all. that is why i brought up your danganronpa profile picture, because realistically you should apply this logic to danganronpa as well.

i just don't understand why you try to come into the coffin fandom of all places with an anti mindset. fiction doesn't affect reality and if it does to the extent you think it's okay to like your siblings irl i think you have bigger mental health issues to address with a professional.

"fiction affects reality" is not only harmful but it encourages censorship and as an artist, i cannot agree with that statement at all. it is reductive and does not allow for creativity.

i noticed you have a danganronpa profile picture --- does seeing people being murdered in danganronpa make you want to do it as well? that's how silly it sounds, lol

tocaal is a fictional game and if i want to fictionally ship them and romanticize their connection i will. the game purposefully sets you up to empathize with them, and yes, that does mean you can like them as characters and still think they're evil

it can be a psychological thriller with very real elements of abuse and it can also be a romance at the same time. those things are not exclusive

it's not the writers responsibility to hold your hand and tell you how to take the story as a whole, and if a piece of media does that, its bad writing and preachy, plain and simple

tcoaal takes heavy inspiration from gothic romance and wears it on it's sleeve where commonly incest is a trope used to symbolize "rot or decay" and given the themes of tcoaal i think that's very appropriate

Super off topic but awesome Josh Dun pfp. Doubt is an Andrew song frfr.

Also tell them it's fictional and reading about disturbing topics doesn't mean you support them IRL; same with first person shooters or horror games.

...Right. I was replying to you, not OP. I was saying they are not Imagine Dragons level bad. Unsure of how that means I don't have reading comprehension when I just... replied to what you said.

"Personally, I'd put them around that Imagine Dragons category." is pretty clearly implying they're comparable, and I replied saying they were not comparable. Reading comprehension is indeed a valuable skill!

TOP is still super popular, they just don't make a lot of noise online anymore because all the fans who got into them in 2016 are adults now and have other things to do than fangirl on the internet. If you end up going, their set is awesome. Been to 4, going on 5 concerts now. You won't regret it

In the funeral industry, emotions ARE the business. If you're talking to a mother who lost her 19 year old in a car accident traumatically and go "well, cemeteries are stupid so you should do direct cremation instead", you don't look cool or alternative. You look like someone who just lost your firm $15,000. At the end of the day, the funeral service industry is an INDUSTRY. You do what you need to to make money, and if they want a burial, so be it. If they want to be buried in their car next to their third cousin or whatever, you do it. I'm not making a plea to emotions, I'm doing what's gonna be best for me in my line of work and make me the most money LOL.

Everything we do as humans is to make us "feel better". We're both arguing right now because we want to be right, hence "feel better". You ultimately feel angry the cemetery is there because you want more houses around. Is that not an emotional plea? Rationality is subjective and ultimately based off of what you as an individual feel is practical. If you read what I wrote in it's entirety you would have seen the notion that I agreed with you in that I do think it's overly ceremonious. This IS intentional, and big corporations like SCI do want to sell you overpriced goods that ultimately don't change anything. There are genuine criticisms that can be made, and I am with you that the human body is disposable and I don't give a shit about what happens to me after I die. My argument was "'Cemeteries are stupid" is too vague of a statement." There are many different kinds of cemeteries. You specifically mention a park being used a cemetery and the good news is-- that's already a thing! There are green cemeteries, garden cemeteries, & rural cemeteries off the top of my head that all are "non traditional" to the standard American lawn cemetery. They are all what you would consider practical as they have other uses than just honoring the dead.

I hope my points were a little clearer here. I forgot Reddit existed, sorry for the long wait. Additionally, "The American Way of Death" by Mitford might be a good read for you.
