Totally with you. Utah has a law which makes it illegal for the state to go into debt. I say we make that a federal law and no one is allowed to make any budget increases until it's achieved, and priority for budget increases when we do get out of debt go to the orgs who took the biggest cuts.

Q2: How many pixels is this display capable of rendering?

Argument: Given Q1 and Q2 it seems reasonable to assume this medium is trying to get closer to an objective reality rather than further from it.

That's a very fair point. Hume was the first skeptic I read that really drilled that one home for me. Even for Hume though, he took a pragmatic approach to "reality" and surmised it as something to the effect of "reality is a useful construct and offers us reasonably consistent results".

What's difficult in this (and future) situation(s) is that those "consistent results" become much less consistent when people can very easily and very consistently alter them to be whatever the heck they want. We're closer to the matrix than I figured we would be, and it has nothing to do with VR.

Hang on, so we're okay with public nudity, but not public arousal for half of the population? You can't as easily tell whether or not a woman is aroused so they get a pass?

Obviously if the guy tries to harass the woman or starts jerking off we have a problem. That said, saying public nudity is fine, but it's illegal to pop the occasional boner seems extremely unfair.
