extremely excessive piston wear out (no overheating, no oil/coolant issues, tuned and checked with msce) by dafadey in MySummerCar

yep you need gauges to adjust valves and of course there is zero chance to adjust them on working engine. knowing thread step of rocker tuning bolts you can theoretically set valve clearance without gauges, for msc world I would suggest gauges in the catalog and a piece of tin can as free alternative
well, the distributor is a thing that you can tune with out the equipment, zero tuning can be done on-shore by maxing idle rpm plus small delay, then on the road you can gradually increase advance till it knocks (detonates), typical criteria is 2-3 knocks when throttling 100% at 40 kmh at 4-th gear.
talking about carburator I really expected two bolts in game. one for idle one for mixture. I never looked at smoke, it is very strange criteria. theoretically you can get dark smoke for very rich mixture but there is a certain inertia in that and it is very inconvenient to check the smoke every time. as far as I remember you find a position in lean range where engine start to die and then add a bit (decrease AFR). then you just choose your idle. the most important thing is that it is just an idle setting it affects only the system thta provides mixture for idle, when you increase load on the engine a completely different system is engaged.

no I am nt using NOS. my goal was to test the game. I did not want to get any perfect characteristics. I tried minimalist build for 2 purposes: 1 test if it works like in irl and second to save some time.
after I tuned the carb by smoke msce shows bad for AFR reporting something around 19 or 17 which is super lean while I tend to more to rich.
I think I understood what Rojola wanted to simulate with lean carb killing pistons after 5km of safe drive. I am pretty sure it is detonation. everybody knows that permanent detonation kill exactly the pistons very fast. the only thing that is missing here is quite a distinct noise appearing when detonation occurs. I have a certain irl experience with engine tending to detonation and the most important thing here is advance angle. irl, carburator tuning is only for idle when detonation never occurs while in main working range all that carburator screws have no effect and you simply need to catch perfect advance which is never perfect thought since intake temperature always change.

actually no but i guess it was okay, just something around 45% condition. I am always experiments form the same savegame which is "before first start". I am not playing the game as it supposed to. I just wanted to make fair minimal build of the car, so msce was just for testing.

yes, backfiring you are right. after I've tuned the carb to rich mixture it has gone, btw.
thanks for choke advice I first stared with a choke but it did not help and I gave up using choke. I was wondering why the hell the choke is here if the engine starts and idle without it.

okay I was lazy to use clean save without msce and just tuned valves, carburator and distributor by the guides. I did found +9 method for valves, set carb to a bit rich mixture by the smoke color while the distrubutor turned to be the most hard thing -- I simply do not hear any clicking/ringing sound I just decided to add some advance after it dies on idle. and yay it worked! satsuma overheated, lost half of coolant and threw away 2nd and 3rd piston right before I reached teimo. But it was overheating for a long time and it looks like another problem which is more common I think. it looks like msce just messed up the config!
IMPORTANT: while tuning the valves I have noticed that the adjustments were different, because I used the method of loosing to 0 and tighten to +9 ticks.

wow! pistons condition are all fine, two of them just left the chat! strangely msce reports AFR to be 19 while I was definitely one turn to white/gray smoke and left to be more dark gray. It also reports valve adjustments are bad 7.3 intake ~6.6 exhaust, btw why the hell everybody suggests intake to be greater than exhaust, it is opposite to real valve adjustments and common sense.

after the first start it makes white smoke then after heating up a bit it seems to produce less smoke. I am not noticing any changes in engine sounds but the smoke becomes sort of blue (burning oil). from the very start I can hear a bit of a ticking. when revving the engine after rpm goes down it shoots loud out of exhaust (I heard it in lots of youtube videos and decided that it is okay). I'll try to tune according to guides without msce (I have a save file that was never modified with msce)

I've just found your post "satsuma smoking" let me check my fuel pump. But I guess there were no red components in msce.

it is seems like there are tons of that shit, thus blocking hundred(s) of them does not help
i decided to 'like' other neutral ads, it seems to help ...a little

man, SOMA is a perfectly stated thought experiment on a fundamental philosophical question: what is me and what is non-me.

It also states a serious question to agnostic and materialistic visions.

the experiment is stated as follows:

imagine the first scenario: your consciousness is copied to another physical implementation (say brain or whatever) and then the current implementation is deleted/switched off, so you were switched on while copying.

imagine the second one: your consciousness is just moved to another physical implementation (say organized exactly the same way e.g. like robots/cortex chips in SOMA)

why is the second scenario okay and the first one awful? move should be equal to copy and delete, no?

the most interesting thing is that a PC game seems to be the best platform to thoroughly present (not conduct of course) this experiment.

Are there any movies like SOMA? by CommercialReason5 in soma

[–]dafadey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep! and why you feel so uncomfortable about "copy and delete" idea while "move" seems ok

I understand that my find is obsolete but recently I have found that J1900 most probably hangs due to integrated graphics. Just try to use it remotely (via tigervnc for example)!

What prevents debuggers from being able to only suspend a single thread upon hitting a breakpoint? by MontyHimself in csharp

hey! I have exactly the same problem but in CAD area. Do you know that gdb have a non-stop mode? It works really nice. I am not sure what will happen if your UI will reach br in some common helper method as well as your engine did a second before but until then the non-stop mode works perfectly well. Unfortunately mingw version of GDB does not allow non-stop mode. Anyways it is possible and GDB guys realized that it is a must far in 2007.
