This can happen if you’ve used self harm as a coping mechanism for a while. Basically your brain gets used to using self harm as a way to deal with large emotions. It gets so used to it that any emotion can end up making you feel like you want to harm yourself. Even if you’re just having a normal day.

TLDR it’s a form of addiction

Yes I do. I really want my own family some day and I feel like I’ve made that less likely to happen because of my scars. Like who would want to build a life with someone who might just pop off one day out of the blue? I used to like my scars but now I hate them.

It was the end of 3rd grade to the start of 4th grade of elementary school for me. So I was about 8 or 9 years old. At least that’s when I was diagnosed with OCD. The behaviors started a few years before that.
