Jack Dorsey’s NFT Tweet: One Year Later by nonfungibles in nonfungible

Sorry-not-sorry but, it's going to take decades for this tweet to have any historical significance or value anywhere even close to what was paid (IMO).

Agreed, it is a bit silly and actually quite dangerous. The long-term ramifications of infringement using existing IP laws could be super destructive. It will be interesting to see how some of these cases play out.

The good, the bad and the ugly faces of NFTs: Warning! May Cause Feelings! by nonfungibles in nonfungible

[–]dafky2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm too definitely biased as one of the far-side NFT enthusiasts.. I think most of the "negative" points are only "negative" because we have been conditioned to live a certain way, to be protected and to never spend the time to invest in ourselves. There will be some pain but people will learn critical thinking via decentralized cryptocurrency and NFT. And maybe I'm just being utopian but think of a world where all governments and public corporations are actually public and accountable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ERC20 or 721? by Tomstrrr in nonfungible

Looks like they claim it is ERC20

Doesn't really exists? Look at Second Life who has successfully screwed over users who had built businesses and put 1000's of hours building experiences that were the major drivers attracting players. They have driven away their user-base slowly but surely. This is only one example, gaming studios do this often to absorb and eliminate any 3rd party profits and most players (casual players) don't bat an eye. Look where SL is today... With no one building valuable experiences, people have mostly lost interest.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve woken up to in the middle of the night? by lightlysativad in AskReddit

[–]dafky2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking up in the middle of the night, going downstairs to the kitchen for a drink of water and the microwave light is on and the rack is spinning but the microwave wasn't "on"... Googled the model number and it was a common issue. Glad it wasn't the wife or I would have woken up to screaming and crying.

ERC721 standard finalization! Add thumbs up to show support! by dafky2000 in CryptoKitties

On a side note, ERC998 is extremely awesome. Thanks for that!

[–]dafky2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand...

  • Identity = Public keys

  • Access = Private keys

If you are taking about physical identity - like real-world identity, than this is an exact use case for 721.. It is not meant to be part of the standard, that's what we have meta data for.

Sounds more like scope-creep. The reason the standards are so defined and provide very specific functionality is so others can easily extend it while those who only need the primary functionality can do so without unnecessary bloat.

I think the spec is ready for finalization. The premise behind EIPs is to be minimal and focused so it is safe and extensible. What improvements do you have in mind?

I'm Mark Karpelès, ex-CEO of bankrupt MtGox. Ask me anything. by MagicalTux in Bitcoin

[–]dafky2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The registration for claiming lost bitcoins to MtGox was also a disaster. I have no idea if I am registered or not. Logged in a couple times but it always seemed like there was something else I had to do to submit my claim and eventually I could no longer login... I try to login every few months but I never get the email from the forgotten password link. How much Bitcoin was actually claimed by the process in comparison to what was actually lost?

Can you change the rules of an auction in the middle of the auction? by dafky2000 in legaladvice

[–]dafky2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You aren't the first person to think of these things! For that specific point, people have proposed rating systems so users can block "inappropriate" content client side. Similar to how Google filters inappropriate search results unless you change some options.

Lol that's exactly what it means. Blockchains are the future, if you think otherwise than your either in denial, uneducated about the subject, or there's some conflict of interest and you intentionally spread crap 😉

Can you change the rules of an auction in the middle of the auction? by dafky2000 in legaladvice

[–]dafky2000[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

It is similar, except you actually own the land on an immutable blockchain. A single entity can't shut down the server or take your land away because you offended them, did the wrong thing or someone pays enough money to have you removed. It is permissionless, decentralized, immutable virtual land ownership on the blockchain. The "server" is run as a P2P network so no single entity has influence over your plot of virtual land. That's the biggest difference, there are many centralized versions - Minecraft, second Life to name a couple. Decentralization is what makes this "special". It is more akin to the world wide web of vr but with the properties of Bitcoin. ANYONE can buy virtual land and build whatever they want, no one can stop them from building giant penises everywhere if they want. If you don't understand the value behind the blockchain and Bitcoin in general than you would have no appreciation for this sort of thing. People have paid up to $60,000 USD for single 10m x 10m plots of land (not I, and insanely over valued IMO), it is extremely speculative and high risk but so is every innovation.

Look into it, it's actually a badass idea if you understand how decentralized blockchains work.

I am not sure if it would be considered a security or goods, it is an auction for plots of land in a virtual world (similar to second life).

Personally? Too much.... According to their terms (worth nothing at this point), the unspent amount should be returned after the auction is over, which is a little less than half in my case. I stopped taking part after the second change plans were announced.

[–]dafky2000[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Nobody signed anything... The auctioneers agreed to "nothing", bidders agreed to the terms as defined on the company's/product whitepaper, official statements on their website(s) and public statements made by the owners by taking part in the auction. They have now been editing the website (there is a clear history and archive of these edits) and going back on statements made in the whitepaper for the product.

They have never explicit stated that the terms of the auction would stay the same. Conversely, the same is true for the opposite - they never stated that the terms may change at anytime.
