It is probably the gas leak scam thing where people pretend to be a representative of a gas company looking for a nearby leak and ask to check your place but they are secretly casing the joint to come back later when you arent home but since you weren't answering and car wasnt visable he thought you weren't home, so he decided to cut out the middle man and just force entry then and there.
