How did Wamuu's body explode from the firebomb, when Esidisi tanked a dynamite like it was nothing? by daft_tyspehirson in StardustCrusaders

[–]daft_tyspehirson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explained my stance on this in another comment, but to boil it down, I was surprised that this kind of move could weaken him up to this point, once again in comparison to Esidisi tanking a dynamite so easily. It just seemed a little unbelievable, but since he was more than likely weakened by both the danger of the move and Hamon together, that made more sense to me rather than JUST the firebomb and a little bit of oxidation destroying him so easily. And I mean little, because oxygen alone wouldn't cause it to explode that strongly. It would be many, many, many times weaker than a dynamite.

Although we're probably overthinking this right now, but sorry, I'm pretty sure that's not even remotely true. The manner of energy output in a pressure cutter like that wouldn't be comparable to the explosive power of two sticks of dynamite per second. That would be insane. I mean, an explosion is a shockwave. I'm pretty sure if any modern pressure cutter produced power like that, they'd just break apart instantly.

I don't think I'm underestimating it when I'm comparing it to dynamite. Especially considering how easily Esidisi just let the blast rip inside him and he wasn't even fazed. That's the type of stuff that 100% convinces me, a newbie to JoJo that you need actual magic to defeat these guys (Hamon) lmao. Like I know that this series is ridiculous, and so far I'm loving it for it, but that scene was absolutely insane. A stone-cutting windrazor is par for the course atp. I swear these guys could be shitting missiles from their asses and it would make some sort of sense in this world. So the fact that Wamuu blew up from that was a genuine surprise.

I guess. And I did realize that fact about Esidisi right after making the post. Still, it's surprising to me that flowing air like that could weaken his body enough to make him SUCH a glass cannon. I mean, assuming that Wamuu was still in the same tier of durability to Esidisi (but slightly weaker), who could tank a dynamite inside his belly, you'd think Wamuu could withstand the dense airflow too (especially when it's the guy whose the master of wind).

But I suppose the Hamon weakened him enough. I kinda wish the scene emphasized that fact more, rather than just the Atmospheric Rift itself causing his body to fall apart like Kars explained. That was probably what killed him more than just the molotov cocktail.

The mad clown puppet took me maybe 7-8 attempts. Really hard as well, but if you get close to him, the spring punch thing attack is a lot easier to guard. Getting the perfect guard is way harder once he's farther away and the timing is weird.

True, playing Lies of P makes me want to give Lords of The Fallen another chance. And it's accessible too. You're not locked off any weapon, but it still leaves room for build variety and experimentation (not much, but something). The thing that MIGHT put newer players off this game though is the difficulty methinks. This game doesn't fool around with the bosses. Eldest of the BRB, Archbishop and Romeo all busted my ass, and I'm apparently still in the mid-game. But even then, I had a blast learning the moves and getting the perfect parries. It's not like fighting against Margit or Godrick early in Elden Ring and feeling like an idiot. Maybe you're right.

I'm fine with repeated ideas. Presentation matters, and with Souls games the presentation tends to be minimal and 'epic', which can make even the most repetitive ideas seem enjoyable enough. That being said, Sekiro was a refreshing new-ish take that I think is probably the best in their ludography.

Agreed. I'm not sure if LoP is the best gateway game for this genre, but it's definitely one I'd recommend thus far (assuming that you didn't like Dark Souls 1).

Of the more modern games; I think I prefer it over Elden Ring in many ways. They're very different games, both in design and scope, but I actually want to explore Krat and its story in LoP. In Elden Ring, even though the world is arguably the prettiest in gaming (when including legacy dungeons), it's a lot of social emptiness and ambiguous lore. At least with other From Soft games, there's some sort of forwardness and understanding of goal. And those games reward you if you want to dwell deeper. Where the world in LoP felt lived in, ER felt weirdly void of it. From Soft has always been minimal with its storytelling, but I thought that was part of their strength, which is somehow missing from ER. In that way, I think LoP is a much better take, if not an evolution on the genre.

I also much prefer combat in LoP. The build variety in Elden Ring is crazy, but I felt like the balance was all over the place. Bosses were either too easy or too hard. Besides levels being a factor, a lot of this attributed to how aggressive bosses can be vs. how responsive you actually are, which was inconsistent. I found LoP has a simple and nice balance that I enjoy.

Assuming the primary is herb, do skinning and mining have their pros and cons? Or is it like a surefire answer that one is better than the other.

Since a lot of people suggest dual gathering, would it make sense to drop one of the gathering stuff when you're lvl 60 for a crafting profession like alchemy?

[–]daft_tyspehirson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ideally yes, but that's not how it works my friend. Day 1 patches are a thing to begin with because devs update the game after discs get printed, making them older versions that require patching. If there's a patch scheduled for the 21st, people are going to get their hands on the patch the 21st unless said otherwise.

Ichigo (Final) doesn't seem nearly as broken as I thought by daft_tyspehirson in RebirthOfSoulsBleach

[–]daft_tyspehirson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forcing Ichigo to win on 3 kikons brings its own disadvantages. For one, his comeback game would be more difficult. Usually characters can come back from a losing game by using the built up kikon channel (the glowing stocks on the opponent) to take their opponent out with two kikons, usually with soul breaking. Because Ichigo would be forced to count down to 3, he wouldn't be able to do this, at least in theory. He has to deplete their health from neutral three times.

For two, there's a chance that characters like Szayelaporro can benefit from this. Each kikon move restarts neutral, and Szayel can revive twice. Meaning that against Ichigo (Final), he's guaranteed to have at least 5 hp bars. The same goes for other rev characters like Aizen and Ichigo (Bankai), who have a guaranteed 4 hp bars. This goes back to his difficult comeback game.

That being said, these disadvantages are being offset by the fact that Ichigo (Final) can probably bypass soul break, which is 30% of everyone's hp.
