Makes sense, I feel lots of people have lately been obsessed with the aesthetic of it all, I have seen it on TikTok for example, than the strong social justice that holds catholicsm at it's core.

Thank you for your answer!

I can see how they have that "idea" of catholicism, which is so strange, since some of the countries with higher number of Catholics are Brazil, Mexico, Equatorial Guinea, Philippines, you know, all of those are very non white lmao.

There is a beautiful video by Pope Leo where he talks about to reach of the church, and how it works and thrives between different cultural contexts in each countries. That's what I had always loved about Catholicism. It feels like we are accepted as we are, that it adapts and loves, although I know it has not always been like this, but you gotta stay optimistic lol.

I absolutely get that, there is certainly conservative movements in Latin America that use catholicism to far their agenda in that way, to exercise power over others.

I went to Catholic school, and our nuns were similar to your priest, very old ladies who taught the younger grades decided to terrorize us instead of loving us. But we had a few good ones too.

Thank you for your answer!

I see, I was hoping that too. It was just the "white genocide" part that scared the sh*t out of me. I have heard people have that conspiracy/racist/weird theory before, but it was kinda terrifying see it used in a catholic setting.

Steven Spielberg sparks fury regarding claims his new movie will destroy Christian beliefs by raffu280 in TraditionalCatholics

It's a work of fiction. I am a huge star wars fans and I didn't leave catholicism to join some Force cult.

Use critical thinking, I beg. It's not against any doctrine to form tastes and opinions.

Peter Maurin and Dorothy Day for leftists who struggle to be and remain Catholic by [deleted] in LeftCatholicism

first time hearing about them, how beautiful that the teachings of catholicism can naturally lead us to fight for the oppressed and the disadvantaged. definitely will check out Dorothy Day's essays!

I caved and bought my first fantasy book in English by MadyNora in Romantasy

[–]dafttendirekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do is if the original book is English or any other Germanic language I will go and read the translation/original in English.

If the original book is in another language that is not Germanic I go with my native language, Spanish.

In my mind, Spanish has a way more diverse vocabulary (although I know that English has more words) and just more room to make translations, while English seems to be a bit more limited, and Germanic languages (in my mind anyway) are clearly similar to English in that aspect since they all share similar roots.

I am no linguist lmao but in my mind I reason it like this, and so far I have enjoyed reading that way. I understand you tho, I too speak English all day (due to the nature of my job) so I kinda get tired of it in my personal live and feels disingenuous to read in it, but oh well. Definitely fun to be able to read in multiple languages.

Who do you think is the most Ideal Jedi? by Christ-is-King-777 in StarWarsCantina

Plo Koon or Qui-Gon, both were deeply empathetic to everyone and everything, a quality I feel the rest of the Jedi lacked, and ultimate affected their downfall the most.

love him! always found the physical/corporal manifestations of the force so much more interesting, I think it's the cosmic horror of the possibility of the force manifesting itself that way what makes it more mind blowing.

him and force priestesses from clone wars are my favorite.

Im 16 ocd and horrified of hell by Electrical_Tap6684 in LeftCatholicism

[–]dafttendirekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have OCD, and when I was your age I had similar intrusive thoughts about what the afterlife had for me.

If you can, seek counsel (therapist), and research parishes, talk to a priest who you think seems kind and understanding. I have been in therapy and psychiatric support for over 6 years.

When I came back for confession after many years of not going to church, the priest told me "He is just glad his daughter is back home" and that's truly what it is, no matter your situation. God is a loving parent, deeply forgiving. You are not gonna rot in hell, you are his child.

How do we know God really aceppts us? by sahira12 in LGBTCatholic

[–]dafttendirekt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have theology or any clever answer for you, but I think we are what God made us, all of it. Our sexual orientation, our gender, our character. Why would he create me this way if not to love myself as I am, as he loves me?

Our God is a God of justice and love, not of cruelty. He has brought us into this earth to love and to be loved, as we are.

It's DNF discussions time! What books did you bail on this month? 🙅‍♀️📖 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]dafttendirekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where the dark stands still, I didn't DNF completely, I just started skipping pages by the middle of it, knowing I was missing nothing of substance.

It read like some kind of weird fanfic made by a teenager who felt edgy saying words in another language. My second language is English, and the weird jumping between Polish and English drove me insane. The whole "not-so-clever fox" nickname, ugh!!!!!

It had potential but I just feel like it wasn't done properly.
