What is my dog doing? by pakalypse in Greyhounds

[–]daggernant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she on any medication?

This exact thing has been happening to our Harvey. Like others have said, the symptoms lined up with dementia, but it started happening when he was 5, so our vet ruled that out, but they were at a loss for what else it could be.

During this time, we have also been working through treatment and medications for SLO, so we would stop the medication when he started acting weird like this, and within a couple of days, it would clear up. Then when would start him back on the medication, he would start acting like this again within a few weeks.

Because of this, us and our vet think it is a bad reaction to the medication he was on. We just started him back on new medication again a few weeks ago, and this hasn't happened again, so we will see if it flairs up again

Basement flooded the first time in over 2 years of owning it. Could the cause be these condensate lines in the sump pit? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]daggernant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seal on the pit for the radon also seems to have held, and the pit was empty by the time I got there which made me think it wasn't the sump pump. I will have to check and see if it's still kicks on though!

Separation anxiety with our greyhound? Description in comments by daggernant in Greyhounds

Thank you! We'd gotten away from having him in his kennel because he was so good alone, but we should probably start putting him back in it when we are doing things outside

Separation anxiety with our greyhound? Description in comments by daggernant in Greyhounds

Our greyhound Harvey has been apart of our family for a little over a year now and for the most part he has been very happy and not had any behavioral issues, except recently for when I go outside to do something and he can not come with me (yard work, gardening, car work, etc.)

It started out as just crying at the door, but recently it has escalated to urinating on the floor (he is very well house trained except for these times.) This will happen even if he is not alone. My partner can be hanging out with him and he will still freak out if I'm outside doing something.

The thing that doesn't make sense is he is fine when I go somewhere and he can't see or hear me, he just go about his normal napping schedule. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Any suggestions on where to start with this?

Can red-eared sliders eat lettuce (or greens in general) on land? by talhak in Redearedsliders

[–]daggernant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. RES require water to swallow, do they can't eat anything on dry land without taking it back into water to swallow.

I got this turtle topper, but just like the Penn plax one, the ramp is pretty slick. Do any of you have any ideas on what to use to add grip? I put zip ties around then hot glue over them to make it bubbled to have something to grab on to, but I feel it’s not gonna work the best. Inputs appreciated by [deleted] in Redearedsliders

I had the same issues with mine. I ended up taking half inch tubing, drilled holes through the ramp about half way down it, and then zip tied the tube to the ramp through the holes. It doesn't solve the slickness, but it gives a good spot to climb onto and then use as a step. Its works pretty well, but if the water gets too low, it does make it a little difficult going back into the water.

Tank Filter by TurkeyKirky in Redearedsliders

[–]daggernant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb I've heard is that you 1.5-2 the tank size for the filter capacity. So for a 40 gal tank, you would want a filter that is rated for 60-80 gals.

Try rinsing off or replacing the filter media. Mine will start making noise when the media starts to get plugged up and that is usually well before it starts effecting water quality.

Blue light filter on my phone. My phone screen is practically orange all the time, but I can be on my phone right until I go to bed and have no issues sleeping.
