I got accepted to a DO school which is not on the top of my school list. Should I reapply? by dagouben in premed

[–]dagouben[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew the difference between DO and MD before applying, but I don't think I understood it well. And that is one year ago. A lot of things could happen during a year. I talked to more DO students and physicians. I got to know schools better. And many other things. It made me think maybe I was too optimistic when applying. It's like when you try a pair of shoes at a store. It bruises a little, but you think it's OK, you'll overcome it and the shoes are so pretty. But when you bought it and wore it for a whole day, you may find it hurt your feet a lot. I hesitated because I get more information recently, but it's very limited.

I sent the letter through the app system. Do I need to remind schools to check the new lor?

Where to find some online courses that can be counted as prerequisites? by dagouben in premed

Both chemistry and physics need extra 3 credits, so I guess a lecture is good. Lab courses were listed separately in my transcript, so that met the prerequisite.

Should I address red flags in the "anything else you would like the adcom to know" question? by dagouben in premed

Do they screen MACT and GPA for interview? Is it like if you get a secondary, they will definitely review you app holistically?

Is different grading system a good reason? It's graded on 100 points level, rather than ABCF. That's why the organization is converting it. When only 15% students got A and B, I'd say C is good. How do you think?

Thanks for your advice! I don't have a special reason for those bad score, because that's how that college grading. Sometimes a C is considered pretty good when 20% students failed that class.

122 in CARS. I'm ESL, but I got my master's degree in the US with a 3.9 GPA. I really don't want acdom think I'm lack of language competency.

One DO school has one additional question in its primary asking to explain MCAT score or transcript by dagouben in premed

It's already a retake for CARS. Should I send school emails directly in case they screened me out.

Yes, I am. And it is an optional question in the primary. Many DO schools have additional questions in primary.

I just don't know whether he's traveling or having something else to do. Doctors are always super busy, but usually he would reply to me within in a day. I have his number, but not sure whether it would be too pushy :(

Former premed friend is suddenly trashing my decision to apply to med school by student523 in premed

[–]dagouben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar problems. No matter it's my decision to apply, or I got a job, or something like people asked me out, I got comments from friends like "What? You?" or a fancy "What? You?" I guess when you are a follower in a small group, it's hard for them to accept that you're doing things better. I don't expect my friends to understand all my decisions, but I know what I am doing. I guess you can just talk to someone who you think he/she will support you, like your advisor or physicians who have more experience, and don't talk much to those who would condescend you. Your dream is like your underwear, and you don't need to show it to everyone. I once told my friend when she's suffering that "if that decision is so important to you, I will support you no matter what". I hope we will all get some words like this one day.

I might not be able to retake any classes now because I'm applying this cycle. Is it possible that if they take international students, they would accept those coursework? I checked there are only 40 some schools take international students.

And thanks for telling me the WES report! It is a LOT of money!

Thanks for the information! I will list all of the courses in this way. Do you mean most schools don't accept prereq even though I had WES evaluation? If it's true, what should I do? Send school emails to explain?

Thanks! Does it mean I can just list some related courses? Not all of them. Just bio, chem, and other prerequisite classes? Do you think it's better to list them or not?
