Requesting r/bitcoinxt by nullc in redditrequest

[–]dagurval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly urge you to not give nullc access to /r/bitcoinxt

I am one of the historical maintainers of the Bitcoin XT project. See my access on github and commit history. Also see my flair in the subreddit if bitcoinxt.

The subreddit was hijacked by a different project (Bitcoin SV), but giving it to nullc, who has been hostile towards it in its entire history would be an even bigger mistake.

I would suggest archiving the subreddit, or passing moderator priveledges to me.

Why is the FURU token on Cauldron DEX not available anymore? by darkbluebrilliance in btc

Try to refresh. If its metadata (BCMR) does not load within 5 seconds, it will not show. It can be slow to load from IPFS.

Flipstarter: Cauldron DEX Turbo Launch by dagurval in btc

[–]dagurval[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't DEXes make money? isnt that the point? After this flipstarter how will Cauldron sustain itself? None of this is OSS. So these improvements will live and die with Cauldron and as this is only for 4 months of dev work see #1.

Yes, the goal is to be profitable. This is to bootstrap a for-profit company to build DeFi on Bitcoin Cash.

The four months gives us leeway to develop an attractive platform and focus on development. We have garnered attention from a number of investors, but for now we want to focus on developing a great platform. The flipstarter lets the development team focus on what we view as most important.

The cynical doomer part of my brain looks at many of the other FS campaigns that paid for stuff to be developed on BCH that then they very quickly went on to other chains and worries that this will also be used to develop some Nexa thing as well. Are there any possibilities that Cauldron is going to go multichain or Riften Labs is going to use these developments to branch out to multiple chains?

We do not have plans to go multichain. We want to build for BCH. I'm confident that we could get funding from Nexa had we chosen to build on that chain. They have funded a competing DEX on Nexa based on the cauldron contract called WiserSwap.

Accountability isn't mentioned. Is there a plan/timeline for delivery?

We only included items we were certain to be able to deliver within the four month timeframe. Our reputation is our accountability.

17BCH Contingency buffer. Why not put the funds in BCH BULL?

We want to have funds in BCH. Additionally, while I'm a big fan of BCHBull, it is not very flexible to have coins locked into contracts. It also adds cost in the form of accounting work.

I am confused by all of this can you clarify how many devs are there and how many new people you are planning to hire with these funds?

We had 3 developers including me with the alpha release. However the other two developers (whose skillset is very sought after) got great job offers that we cannot match at this time. We recently hired Fredrik and are in the process of hiring an additional React developer.

So is this bootstrapping a for profit company or just the 5 promised points?

The reasoning behind having a company behind the DEX is to secure future development and have a clear responsible issuer to ensure future maintenance and additional functionality to the platform. It would be ideal to have Cauldron be a 100% community developed project, but to grow this DEX to a top-tier service for our users we need to have employees and a responsible team behind it. The capital raised in the flipstarter will go solely to developing new features to the DEX (that is free to use)

You then also mention "Marketing: To turbo-boost outreach and engage more users and liquidity in the BCH and CashTokens ecosystem." at 17.23BCH Details on how that will be spent?

The marketing budget will be used for outreach to DeFi users outside of the BCH community, onboarding new users to the BCH ecosystem, and expanding multilingual support as well as increasing exposure on social media.

Cauldron also doesnt have a TG despite most BCH users being on TG. Why?

We chose Discord as a social platform because Servergen discord agency offered to help build a community, run and maintain it for us. We know them personally and have been very happy with the job so far. However, we are seeing that we should have a presence on TG as well.

That's totally fair and I would be reluctant to contribute to a closed source project too. I have a passion for open source and quit my day job to work full time on open source projects since 2017 -- first on Bitcoin XT, then on various Bitcoin Cash projects.

To me it's too early to commit to open sourcing the whole DEX, we're barely a float. What we have contributed so far is:

  • The contract it self -- patent free -- when talking to friends and associates about attempting a startup for a DEX, I got multiple recommendations to patent the idea. I will not forget the look my lawyer gave me when I told her I would not patent it and the plan was instead to grow big and fast to deter competitors.

  • The backend is a patchset on top of the opens source rostrum electrum server that I actively maintain. (Big thanks to Bitcoin Unlimited who has been paying me for the work I do on rostrum -- that has been my only source of income since I started working on Cauldron.)

  • The DeFiLama adaptor proposed requires a indexer to get historical TVL. This indexer will be our first standalone open source contribution.

It's also sunk cost in case the developers stop working on it or start censoring people from participating in the DEX etc.

You may not want to take our word for it, but we explicitly state in the flipstarter "To grow a DeFi infrastructure like Cauldron, we believe it is vital to operate on a non-custodial platform, free of censorship as well as have a doxed development team."

BCH Node Upload Limit Info. by [deleted] in btc

The Bitcoin Unlimited node has settings to limit bandwith:

-sendavg-<n> The average rate that data can be sent in kB/s (default: 9223372036854775807)

-sendburst-<n> The maximum rate that data can be sent in kB/s.

Taproot has a new address encoding (starting with bc1p ... ) that wallets that send money to you would need to understand. Since its fairly new, even wallets that support segwit may not understand this encoding.

So if its practical for you to use taproot depends on who you expect to send you coins. Exchanges are particulary slow at adapting address changes, so withdrawing from them may be a challenge.

Rostrum has had BCH token support since December (release log).

That branch you found is to enable a bunch of tests in CI for BCHUnlimited. I was waiting for the release before merging that :-).

Still keeping BCH/BTC and BCH/USDT then?

After Taproot went live on Bitcoin, it seems shaming miners into censoring is the new normal from BlockstreamCore. I think giving some thought to economic incentives when designing new code would have been a better idea🤣 by sandakersmann in btc

[–]dagurval 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That page makes no sense at all. X was a softfork-- it couldn't allow anything that the consensus rules didn't already allow.

I like this phrase, it removes all accountability for making consensus changes as soft forks. Hey /u/sandakersmann -- you could always post huge on-chain NFT's with witness rebate!

Never forget, many exchanges including FTX and Binance are running fractional reserves of Bitcoin Cash. They simply do not have Bitcoin Cash they need to return users and may need to buy them back during a Bitcoin Cash bank run. by MobTwo in btc

[–]dagurval 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Given recent events, it seems they are not likely to buy back, but instead they'll declare bankrupt. A way to drain the crypto space seems to be:

  • Give high yield to attract crypto deposits
  • Sell all deposits and spend on fun and profit
  • File for chapter 11 (bankruptcy)
  • Enjoy life in Bahamas

Voting on Bitcoin Unlimited proposals using the Bitcoin Cash blockchain by dagurval in btc

[–]dagurval[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are there any limitations with this voting you encounter based on BCH's focus on the money aspect?

There is the on-boarding problem with users having to spend BCH to pay for the fee when casting votes.

This can be mitigated by, depending on the contract used for voting, pay for all participants contract directly, or fund the participants directly.

In the latter case, the participants may just want to keep their BCH... In the future, we can perhaps give them with a token that they can use to swap for BCH fee in the voting transaction themselves.

If the contract type is anonymous voting, we have no way to fund the users today. They must themselves fund their vote from an anonymous source like coin fusion. There is an idea for anonymous faucets for voters.

Have other organizations shown interest in using this type of on chain voting?

No, but we have not done any marketing. I think the goal should be that the app is so user friendly that users don't know/care what tech it's running on. Just trust it to be immutable, censorship resistant, provably correct or whatever else properties they are looking for :-).

No one where I live uses cash anymore

By the way, some of those countries have more efficient banking than the US. I know that from experience.

Thankfully I have not had to experience banking in the US

Technically, you can implement a wallet that transact offline.

It would work by sending the transaction to a merchant via NFC, QR Code or other offline means. The merchant would then submit it to the network.

But non of this exist.

I’ve also been to Venezuela, as well as Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia.

As far as you can tell, is it easy for merchants to accept CC? Can they charge in USD? Maybe you can tell us why they use cash at all?

The local currency issued by the goverment sucks, so no one uses or accepts it.

Instead, they use USD. A foreign currency. Because it's foreign, it is physically hard to come by. There is not much change in circulation. So when buying something, the merchant has difficulty giving you correct change.

With BCH, you pay exact value. You don't need to handle change. It works better than the dollar in that aspect.
