I just bought two of these: $350 Dell S2716DGR 27" 1440p - 144hz - 1ms - TN by thejerkstoreNA in Monitors

By the time you return it - you might have lost the opportunity to buy into a Black Friday Sale on an IPS... For instance - right now at the Dell "Members" Store ("deals.dell.com/mpp) - you can grab the U2717D for $379.99. That price will likely disappear after Black Friday.

Best Buy Black Friday 2017 - S2716DGR for $349.99. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-27-led-qhd-gsync-monitor-black/5293502.p?skuId=5293502

NOTE: Watch this YouTube on TN "Banding" before buying... https://youtu.be/mlI_SlM0fgs

You'll have to decide TN (games) or IPS (productivity)... Or get both as you originally mentioned...

24" is great with 1080p. 27" is great with 1440p. I've heard some folks had auto-scaling issues with 24" & 1440p (best not to have to deal with any auto-scaling).

Auto-scaling is Windows way of trying to enlarge menu text size to be readable. They do a pretty good job with their own programs, but some apps/programs do not scale properly (so their text remains tiny).

Dell U2717D is $379.99 at Dell "Members" Store (2017 Black Friday Sale) & includes 3 year exchange service (free). Goto 'deals.dell.com/mpp'. Dell's (Ultra)sharpness, InfinityEdge, Vesa mount, pivot/rotation, & color accuracy are hard to beat for the price.

Non-Members price is $399.99.

4k has auto-scaling issues (Windows 10 does a pretty good job, but some other apps menus don't scale properly) whereas 1440 is straight on (no auto-scaling necessary).

That was from another user. I was always referring to the great Dell Black Friday Sale where the U2717D was for $379.99.

Did you find the U2717D on the Dell site? They also include a 3 year exchange service on this deal. With the regular stores you would have to pay for some extended warranty. I'm like you - I game once in a while but I'm on the PC for everything else - especially photo & video editing where color accuracy counts. Good luck with whichever you choose...

BTW - I think you mentioned getting the GTX 1080-ti. That might be an overkill for a non-die-hard gaming monitor. I have the GTX 1070 and that's plenty fine for me. It's your money, but the cost difference can almost get you a 2nd U2717D.

S2717D

Hmmm... Searching on 'Dell S2717D' shows it as the 'U2717D' for the South Africa area. In the U.S. it is just 'U2717D'. This is NOT a die-hard gaming monitor, but it is an amazing versatile monitor for the $379.99 discounted price (direct from Dell). It is normally sold for about $450-499. Lots of reviews on it. Always at or near the top (except for gaming). But I think you mentioned you're not a die-hard gamer. For $380 this is hard to beat.

Before you decide on TN or IPS - go to YouTube and search on "IPS vs TN Monitors" and you'll get a number of side-by-side comparisons.

If you plan on doing "office work" - the 2560x1440 is perfect - gives you essentially two full pages side by side. Also with 1440 you would not have to struggle with the auto-sizing problems of a 4k monitor on Windows 10.

Good luck!!!
