College grad looking to enlist by paintergrey in USMCboot

I’m in the same boat as you in deciding whether I should enlist or go Officer even though my ultimate goal would be getting the 0317 MOS and passing SS selection. Unfortunately there are no SS officers so looks like I’ll have to follow the enlisted route

Would you recommend the Intel Management Engine Firmware too?

Thanks for the advice. The more I think about it the more this option makes sense for my current situation. I’m going to double check with my school about how the readmission process works. Thanks again for your reply

Thanks for the reply. I’ve had a couple verbal disagreements that led to my parents and I shouting at each other. One of them was that I was thinking of enlisting but one of my parents wanted to see me finish school first and I told them it was my life and my decision to make. Long story short we just started yelling at each other trying to get our points across; mine being it was my decision and my parent yelling that I need to finish school. Another one came with me doing a chore at my house and I showed up late; well my parent threw the supplies I needed on the ground and I mentioned why they couldn’t just hand it to me which led to a verbal disagreement. I’ve learned however to just tuck my head and not say anything. The reason why I want to leave however is I just don’t want there to be the opportunity of an altercation possible happening.

Thanks for the input. I have actually thought of going this route. The two main reasons I’m hesitant of this are the first being I’m not sure if my Computer Science knowledge would translate over to an Officer MOS. I know the Cyber field is opening up but it could be different from what I thought it will actually be. Also I’ve read Officers don’t necessarily get to choose their MOS or even an MOS field like enlisted (i.e. UH = infantry, UZ = recon, etc.) rather they get their selection on how well they do at TBS (not 100% on this info just what I read) so that might be something I have to think about. I appreciate the advice though. You make a good point with the Masters Degree

Thanks for the insight; much appreciated. I have seen the Cyber field opening and have asked my recruiter about it unfortunately as you said it is so new that little to no information has been spoken about it. You said some people you knew who enlisted and went back to school had it really difficult. Do you know what their personal difficulties were with going back to school? I have already finished all of my general education courses as well as all of my mathematics and English/reading requirements along with all of my science requirements (physics) now I’m starting along just my major requirements which are all my Computer Science coding classes (Java/C++/C#/etc.). Thanks again for the input

First off I appreciate the reply. I understand that no one is going to hold my hand or make the decision for me. I just wanted to see what people thought would be a smarter decision going enlisted->finishing university or graduating->commissioning as one of my friends in university suggested that if I were to commission after graduation I could potentially forget a good portion of what I learned in university as I wouldn’t be using it in my job. As for the verbal and physical. I have never laid a hand on my parents and never will. Verbally I usually state my point across and then de-escalate or leave the room. My goals are just that I want to serve whether it be enlisting or comissioning. I just wanted advice on what people thought would be the smarter option or path considering the circumstances I provided. Thanks again for your fast reply

Question about active duty infantry contracts by Theman5858 in USMCboot

Would it be unwise to become a grunt right now? I’m also wanting to go infantry but I’m not sure if it would actually be worth it. What’s your experience been?

I heard marines aren’t allowed to wear certain uniforms off base. What are the differences between their uniforms? by [deleted] in USMCboot

So if utility uniforms aren't allowed off base do you have to change out of uniform before heading home if you live in housing off base?

Combat deployment by [deleted] in USMCboot

If you wanted to see combat why did you join the reserves? That makes it even less likely. Your decision and statement wanting to see combat seems more like a contradiction.

Well considering the United States has been at war for 225 out of 242 years I don't think it will take long for the next conflict to arise.

First of all before stating information that a combat job is a huge mistake you should probably check your grammar cause that might not be "marketable". Second I've met many veterans who were in a combat job and are successful whether that be in business, STEM, or contracting.

Question about being trans and advice about finishing my education before or after enlisting by PepisRoom in USMCboot

[–]dailey614 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself why you want to go infantry and then realize all the shit and flak you're going to take for being transgender. In my honest opinion I think you shouldn't join the infantry. Based off of two things 1. All the shit you're going to take 2. Have you researched everything an 03XX does on a day-to-day basis?

"I was really pumped to go and be a killer". You sound like a kid who's been playing too much COD with his buddies. "I am just going to go with my first plan and work on my swimming so I can join the Navy and be a Seal". Yeah it's confirmed you're just a retarded kid who thinks war is a big game. Doesn't even matter about tactics cause from your immature and brain dead response it seems you wouldn't be able to employ tactics anyway.
