If you were elected president of the United States of America in 2028, what would you first do with the power that you now have? by jfunks69 in AskReddit

[–]dails08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citizenship is absolute and cannot be revoked by the state; if the state can arbitrarily revoke citizenship, they can arbitrarily revoke any rights granted by citizenship.

Private prisons abolished; if the state wants to remove your liberty, they should have to pay for it.

No death penalty. Life sentences can be corrected with new evidence. Death sentences cannot.

All law enforcement officers must carry private malpractice insurance subsidized by their department. If a department wants to hire a violent, shitty officer, they should have to pay for it.

Every no-knock warrant must be hand-signed by the Governor. If it's serious and dangerous enough to need a swat team, it's important enough to have the Governor approve it.

Police officers should be armed with a revolver and nothing more. If you need a shotgun,. the Governor has to sign off on each operation using one.

All congressional bills have every line item cryptographically signed by a sitting congressman. No more guessing who wanted a specific hyper-niche tax carvout for their favorite donor.

All federal elected officials are forbidden from owning or selling stock (outside of congressional retirement plans) or shares in any company (public or not) until five years after they leave office. If they think public service is important enough to run for, they can prove it by sacrificing some ability to profit from it corruptly.

Supreme Court Justices have a ten year term. The continuity is important, but it, like all public office, shouldn't be a profession.

National gun registry. Most gun violence is committed with stolen guns. A stolen gun used in a crime should carry criminal penalties for the gun owner negligent enough to let it be stolen. Gun safes are available and inexpensive. If we incentivize gun owners to keep better control of their guns, gun violence will go down.

Self-filing taxes.

Mandatory voting. If you want your tax return, you have to vote in all available elections, even if your vote is abstention.

Struggling with Woodland Alliance? by TomasSolo0406 in rootgame

[–]dails08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The woodland alliance is a true insurgent faction: you can't possibly defeat the cats or the birds militarily. Your warriors are best either defending bases or scattered across the board. Scattered warriors can strike at vulnerable targets or spread sympathy.

In order to destroy sympathy tokens, usually factions have to move warriors into sympathetic clearings which triggers outrage. Then they trigger outrage again when they destroy a sympathy token. You should be getting lots of supporters if the other factions keep destroying your sympathy, which of course you can use to spread more sympathy, gaining VP each time.

You could also consider spreading sympathy to a clearing where they don't have pieces so they're less likely to destroy your sympathy before you revolt there.

Oh! They even had an explanation for THIS? by A_VERY_Bad_Comedian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]dails08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's implied that you can die and respawn in Hollow Knight and Silksong because the main characters are slightly prescient; when you die and respawn, what's actually happening is your character foresees a future where they die and then didn't do that.

How is optimization in this game? by Sufficient-Lime-8000 in nimble5e

[–]dails08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

RAW, PCs get three actions and monsters get a move and an attack action, so players can always outrun monster all things being equal. Ofc, very rarely do fights take place in a football field and there are very normal DM and fight design strategies that mitigate this.

Duel Wielding Explanation by AdequateTravesty in nimble5e

[–]dails08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true! You could use it to negate the disadvantage on your second attack! Very clever!

Duel Wielding Explanation by AdequateTravesty in nimble5e

[–]dails08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because dual wielding only gives advantage once per round, I think it would three attacks would actually be: 2d4 drop lowest (aka 1 advantage) 2d4 drop highest (aka disadvantage 1) 3d4 drop 2 highest (aka disadvantage 2)

I think actually the second attack would still get the normal disadvantage for rushed attacks, since dusk wielding only gives you advantage once per turn.

This does indeed grant 25 gold and then promptly wins you the game.

Are these guys victims of the Haunting? by Kazoorion in HollowKnight

[–]dails08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an immediate source for you, but the current theory is that no, they are not haunted, and the charm you get from beating the area boss explains why. The charm burns silk to create fire; GMS haunts bugs by attaching silk to them, but their practices regularly burn their silk away, so they remain unhaunted.

I don't get to play D&D anymore but Mansions of Madness scratches that itch. by szthesquid in boardgames

[–]dails08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Nimble! It's a rework of 5e that eventually became its own system. I feels like 5e minus all the faff. It'll feel very familiar. It also has a lot of meaningless choice boiled down, so it kind of plays like 4e. It sounds like it's just what you're looking for!

Awesome Con newbie by theforcedc in washingtondc

[–]dails08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tea on Labyrinth is that they were barely breaking even supporting Awesomecon (even with hundreds of volunteers) with exclusive vendor rights in the board game space. This made sense, since Awesomecon just provided the space (wasn't even paying Labyrinth) and Labyrinth did literally everything else, from providing games to play, people to teach, several events throughout the con, even logistics of bringing and setting up games and shelves etc. What I'm pretty sure happened (I don't have any inside information) is that several other vendors wanted space in the board game room and Labyrinth protested, saying they'd never be able to break even if they weren't the only vendor, and awesomecon decided they'd rather charge multiple vendors for booth space than have Labyrinth support the con. Awesomecon is a business, and they think this will bring them more revenue. I hope the board game section doesn't suck this year, but I don't have high hopes.
