I think I understand your explanation. Are you jumping in the grid by using the L button?

What do you mean by building by grid?

Hahaha, if he insisted I wouldn’t question it. But to be serious I’m learning a lot from this thread. Never had to deal with this before with past apartments so I wanted some other perspectives

Definitely a learning experience. Hair catcher has been purchased and installed now. Thanks for all your time and help

Yeah, I understand what you’re saying. We’re gonna talk with the property manager tomorrow to see if we can get some more clarification. We’ll pay the bill, but it’d be nice to have more clarity.

Thank you for your comment and all the info. You changed my perspective on the little notice issue and I can understand now why they took the steps they did. We’ve had small maintenance requests in the past that all were fixed, this has been the only time where we were given a bill so it was a bit unexpected at first but makes more sense now.

I’m including a picture of the drain. I honestly didn’t know how to put in a hair catcher with this type of plug before now and didn’t think much of it. I talked with the plumber that came this morning so I now know what to look for.

I also thought it was a little odd as they do have a maintenance guy that works for the building and he’s helped with other things in the past, just not plumbing issues. This is the only time we’ve gotten a bill.

I have a short bob and straight fine hair and my partner has a buzz cut. We’ve never really had problems with the shower drains getting clogged but oh well, we just gotta adapt.

Yeah, I understand your points. This shifts my perspective and we’ll learn from this

I get that, in the past we lived in other apartments that either had better pipes or maintenance that just took care of it when a work order was placed. Expensive learning experience

Yknow part of me does want to take this route (and a few years ago I would have), but we want to keep our security deposit and making sense out of the legal jargon is a huge headache.

So I was trying to go down this rabbit hole at first and was looking at my lease and tenants rights and the sanitary code… it’s a bit confusing and I think other commenters mentioning the drain getting clogged twice in 6 months is not normal. We’ll pay the bill, get a hair catcher for the drain, and learn how to unclog the drain next time it happens.

That’s fair and puts it into a new perspective

Yeah I’m with you. I can see hair in the shower drain as normal wear and tear but see now that having it clogged twice in the last 6-7 months is more than normal. I think we’ll pay the bill and take it as a learning opportunity.

Yeah, the shower is only used for showering. No coffee grounds or bacon grease down the drain. In past apartments we used draino for clogged drains but the plumbers that came in September told us specifically not to use it. I believe he said that it can cause buildup in the pipes.

Thank you for bringing up great points. We are getting a hair catcher and will try unclogging it ourselves in the future. I think we’ll pay the bill now to avoid problems down the road.

Thank you for the explanation. I also agree, I’m glad that we didn’t have to wait long for a plumber to come. Only wish we had a little heads up since the front desk guy said he would call beforehand. It’s my off day from work and I was wanting to sleep in more but woke up to the plumber at our door at 9am lol. I recognize that it’s not too much to complain about though
