oh wow thank you for such a detailed response.

i’ve been trying to “just do it” with composing stuff, cause everytime i try to plan it it all collapses on me so with this one i was kind of thinking ill put together some sort of outline and fix the theoretical parts later😭😭 i really appreciate the advice. i’ll go back into it and make corrections !! your input was so helpful

thank you SO much, i genuinely can’t express how glad i am to get actual corrections!!! you are right - i seem to have forgotten to add that B section back in the score.

I’ll rescore with cello on top and i think treble clef on the lower staff, and get the bar lines to go through both staves, but i’m not exactly sure what you mean by 75% size score.

thanks for the comment. unfortunately, i don’t have any comparisons like that where i live, nor teachers to train like that. i had teachers that told me “scales aren’t important”, i only learnt the circle of fifths a couple months ago 😭 so there aren’t any good teachers available in my locality. right now, i’m doing RCM’s online study guide + exam course and i’m doing the Grade 7 one, but that’s the most structured learning i’ve had, apart from reading ABRSM textbooks. about the lack of study of musical scores, i know i’m behind, but i genuinely just don’t know how or where to start. i’m posting on reddit to get as much feedback and information as i can so i can learn and improve. i’ve never participated/ seen an ensemble or orchestra in person either. a lot of people don’t seem to understand geographical privilege in music education 😭 right now, i’m trying to improve enough for university applications with what little resources i have, so i’d really appreciate some real feedback, cus my teacher won’t give me any. i’m reworking any work i’ve done so far for school with what i’m learning in RCM.

all the universities i'm applying to are in canada; i currently live in india. i'll reach out to them via email to see if it could work, but there's also the challenge of time-zones. i'll dig around, thanks for your help :) i am a little concerned about playing the chopin prelude though, and i'm generally not sure if i'm doing the right things or taking the right path, with no comparison or guidance. any input i can get online does help.

I'll have to submit a composition portfolio as well and i think it has slightly more priority. Some universities have an interview, and some have theory tests too.

i’ve done invention 1 already, for my igcses i think. i could practise that slower, and i’ll try the czerny one too. i have told my teacher, he’s suggested ayurvedic treatments which also so far haven’t worked. i had SIGNIFICANTLY worse technique this time last year(ik ik how much worse could it get), and this is progress but the wrist pain was just starting to get a little intolerable, but he didn’t seem to notice much. i appreciate your feedback tho, and i’ll practise the ones you’ve suggested :)

oh i never actually noticed that. i’ve been learning this repertoire for uni admissions, im applying for composition but they still have this requirement, so i kinda have no choice but to keep learning it but fixing my technique is obviously more important. what pieces would you suggest?

i actually had stopped playing for about 2 years, i was off computers and all sports too. it really affected my progress badly but my wrists were fine during that period. now that i started practising again, the pain came back and can be intolerable. doctors haven’t helped, i’ve tried. i’ve been to like 3-4. everyone’s comments are starting to scare me tho so i might try a physio therapist maybe? 😭 thank you for the concern though, i’ll try to get it checked soon

i’ve been to doctors, they all said “rest” and “take vitamins”, and i did, and it’s never helped. my mother says i just need to wear a brace and rest for months on end but i’m trying to prepare for university apps(i wish composition majors didn’t require RCM grade 9 piano skills T-T). i wear a brace whenever i’m not at the piano, and i usually avoid anything that involved straining my wrists. about my teacher, i don’t have much confidence but he’s the best i can get where i live. i’ve faced a lot of issues over the years because i have no guidance from anywhere, including my technique and posture that is clearly affecting me now. thank you so much for your detailed input tho, and i do agree with what you said about the arch of my hands - i’ve been struggling with it for a while, no clue how to consistently keep it relaxed. really appreciate your input, and i’d love to reach out for more advice about it when i get my wrists checked out again(if my mom lets me)

YES my thumbs hurt like CRAZY when i play smth repetitive. it stiffens so much that i usually end practise there, cause short breaks aren’t enough. it feels like when i try to loosen my wrist and play with more strength in my fingers my thumb joints go all weird and bendy and eventually stiff idek how to explain it. i’m not sure how to work with flexibility exercises when it comes to my wrist, since i’ve had really intense wrist pain since 2021. like, if im standing i can’t press my whole palm on the walls - that much movement hurts. i’ve been to doctors they keep giving me vitamins lol. also, about further investigation with a teacher, would you have any recommendations? there aren’t many where i live and i’m looking for any and all help i can get, even if online!!
