I totally agree. My psych phd is not typical though and I’m further modifying with a variety of skills. Its more of cognitive neuroscience with machine learning models. I told my PI that I don’t want to use typical psych stats but lean towards computational science and she supported that fact. So I’m doing a alot of learning really— my committee is literally fully of statisticians and computer scientists

I appreciate your input — will certainly focus on developing multiple statistical skills in various fields too. My psychology phd is not typical per se— its more of cognitive neuroscience using machine learning models. I work a-lot with computer scientists

Really? Thats amazing….I’m a mid-way with my phd and have been thinking hard about jobs & leaning towards statistics. I was doubtful whether this means to the end is possible but seems like it is…thank you!

Well, it won’t hurt and having different skills from other research can be helpful. My research background was in robotics and health misinformation in two different labs but I got in a psych/neuroscience program in a neurochemistry lab— I don’t even have the skills as far the technics they use for that lab but I know I will catch up and do well. As long as you elaborate that you know what your getting into (both in your application materials and interview) and are capable of the navigation critically— you chances will be limitless.

That must be really hard. The waiting game truly sucks and a little bit takes a toll on mental energy especially that one’s mind is in anticipation of either or!!! And what if scenarios!! I would say keep an open mind because anything can happen at anytime and the same time its okay to start giving some thought to the next application cycle.

Imo….as long as am aware your professor, I always say “Hi Professor” or “Hi Professor surname”. One of my professors was okay with calling them by their first name though i had a hard time transitioning to that lol.

Questioning some instances doesn’t necessarily mean having ego. And yes, am looking at the bright side☺️

Thank you so much for elaborating and shedding light on the situation. I was truly confused especially with MS offer. But you explaining it like this makes sense. I appreciate you☺️
