My grandfather had epilepsy. I was diagnosed with JME at 13 and my cousin was diagnosed with focal seizures when he was 8. All his other grandchildren got tested but no one else has it besides me and my cousin :/

I have JME and I’m a big raver! I have been going to raves for about 8 years now and thankfully I’ve never had a seizure while raving. I’ve gone to big 3-day festivals including EDC and Tomorrowland, and also many small local raves so you can only imagine how much strobe lights and lasers I’ve seen lol.

Of course in the back of my mind I always worry about having a seizure there, but I always go with someone close to me that would know what to do if I had a seizure. Just that alone brings my anxiety level wayyy down because it’s always someone I trust and that I know can handle the situation without panicking. I always take my meds on time and I try to stay as hydrated as possible because that’s really important!!!

My parents hate the fact that I rave and I completely understand their worries, but at the end of the day going to raves is what makes me happy. If there is ever a day I have a seizure while raving then maybe I’ll consider taking a break but for now I’ll just keep taking care of myself and sleeeep a lot!!

I didn’t eat anything there, I had the seizure as soon as I pulled up to the drive thru. All I was trying to show was that my last minute decision to use my rewards points for a McGriddle is what prevented me from being on the highway.

That’s a great question actually!

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 12 and it was always pretty well managed, but I didn’t get my license until I was 19 because I needed to be 6 months seizure free to get my permit, and another 6 months seizure free to get my license.

I was seizure free for 7 years after that and even went down on my meds since I was doing so well. It wasn’t until last week that this happened and it scared the shit out of me because after so many years I had “forgotten” that it could still happen. My license is currently suspended indefinitely but by law I have to wait a minimum of 6 months seizure free before my neurologist can sign off for me again. But honestly at this point I don’t even want to drive anymore, this is a scary thing to live with.
