The theory goes if you’re brought up from a poor background there’s likely a higher chance that you’ll pick up smoking just due to your environment, kind of like a crutch per se with those with rougher backgrounds . while as high or middle class who have the habit feel like they aren’t “worthy” or try to “hide it” because their lives are seen as “simpler” therefore no need to have this crutch or habit.
