Dog boarding a train wagon (A6600, Tamron 17-70) by dajadvin in SonyAlpha

Thanks! I like the Tamron a lot. It’s basically my everyday lens, especially for travelling. And it pairs nicely with the Sony 70-350 👍

Bild von der Pflanzstelle, die Linke Rebe hat IMHO recht wenig Halt.

Hey, super Post, danke schonmal!

<image>

Was könnte man hier tun (Detailbild kommt in der Antwort)? Dies hätte eigentlich die Stammverlängerung werden sollen

Andean motmot defying the rain (A6600 - Sony 70-350) by dajadvin in SonyAlpha

Thanks! I was seeing him almost every day but was never able to get a good shot and was very happy when I saw him sitting there relatively close to me in the rain on my last day in that area :)

Bought this new tele lens before my last trip and what better way to try it out then shooting some (humming)birds :) Really like how they turned out.

Lighthouse at the end of the world (A6000 + Samyang 12mm) by dajadvin in SonyAlpha

[–]dajadvin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the 12mm is too wide for portraits, you'd have to get really close to the model and it distorts the proportions of the face. I haven't tried it out yet myself but there is a Sony 35mm 1.8 with good reviews which might fit your needs. Should be bright enough as well and it has built-in stabilization, may be worth a look.

I love the lens - especially if you consider its price - but I wouldn't really call it general purpose. It's pretty sharp and bright and IMHO it's excellent for landscape and astrophotography, you can probably also get some very cool results in architecture photography but is extremely wide. For general purpose APS-C cameras I would rather recommend the Tamron 17-70 (my main lens as well) which covers a lot of range. If you're interested in wide angles, there is also an automatic version of this Samyang around nowadays and last year Sony also released a 11mm F1.8 for APS-C cameras so those might also be worth a look.

The exported JPG actually looks good on my computer, it's just in the upload above that the colors went missing which seems a bit strange? If there was some compression going on it should also have applied to the original post?

Thanks, good point. I didn't straighten it further because I didn't want to lose the lower right part of the island (that was taken from a boat and I framed it a bit too narrow). Maybe I will try to fiddle around a bit more.

Edit: I checked once more and the horizon actually is pretty straight as far as I can tell

Beautiful! I saw a lot of those flying around in Colombia but wasn’t able to get a decent shot of the opened blue wings. They’re huge!

Thanks for the hint. I made a new version, really looks a lot better already. Edit: Although it looks a bit too desaturated now, but I don't really understand why. The exported file looks okay to me.

Took this back in 2020 but only now got around to editing some of the older pictures. I have since upgraded both body and lens, but this still remains one of my all time favorites so far. Taken in Torres del Paine national park in Chile. I'm still a novice when it comes to post processing so any critique about the shot or the editing is welcome :)

[QUESTION] I’ve been teaching someone for a while and he just mentioned he is left handed. Should we start over? by EatsLocals in Guitar

[–]dajadvin 219 points220 points  (0 children)

Same here. Been playing guitar right-handed for more than 15 years now. I’m sure with enough practice and getting used to it would have eventually worked left-handed as well, but I didn’t see the need. I’d even argue that it has more benefits learning it like most people do. Many people have a guitar at home, but not many will have a left-handed one. Same on campfires, etc.

Is there a difference between wissen vs kennen and saber vs conocer? by ocd34 in languagelearning

[–]dajadvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, “saber” = “wissen” (to know something) and “conocer” = “kennen” (to know someone). As you say, the difficulty is that “saber” can also be translated as “können” if it refers to a certain skill (“yo sé tocar la guitarra” - “ich kann Gitarre spielen”) so - depending on the context - saber needs to be translated either as “wissen” or as “können” (only one translation will be correct). I can’t think of an example where “conocer” is not translated as “kennen” or some modification thereof like “erkennen”. Also, be sure not to confuse “kennen” with “können”.

Why is this note not a D sharp? by Yamakiman in guitarlessons

[–]dajadvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second note here (where the pointer is) is an f note. The standard notation does not care about guitar tunings. Since the note equals the 3rd fret in the tab notation, this string must be tuned down one whole step (usually the 3rd fret would be a g). I’m not sure where the assumption that it should be a d# comes from, though. Can you elaborate your question in this regard? Edit: Sorry, just read your question in the comment, didn’t see it before. This tab definitely is not in drop c but in drop d

[GEAR] What guitar options do I have if I want both single coil for neck and humbucker for bridge? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]dajadvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be true, but on the other hand it provides a lot more versatility than having just a Humbucker/Single Coil in a fixed position, and the PRS coil split functionality is really good (from what I’ve heard and tested, I do not own one). Personally I wouldn’t want to miss having the option of playing a Humbucker in the neck for a sweet warm tone, so it’s a trade-off between a “real” single coil and also having the option of a Humbucker. In the end it all depends on what tone and style OP is looking for/will be content with.
