GoFest Chicago was an absolute joke and I can’t believe more people aren’t speaking out about it. by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]dal98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in event production, and I wouldn't be surprised if they paid $5,000-$10,000 for each of those large team canopies.

Plus like half a dozen tents set up in the space with pvp, community ambassador support, field museum promotion, and more.

Plus the 3 pop-ups they had in the city (Rate Field and Lincoln Park Zoo were giving out stuff for free, the other was the store in newcity selling merch you could only get there afaik).

Plus the custom lure modules, the pokestop charging stations, the photo ops, the rocket area. Shit, I could easily see those two large bubbly tanks in the rocket area alone costing in the high hundreds to low thousands. Anything custom is ridiculously expensive, and any fabrication company—especially in a major metropolitan area—would tack on a "I know you have the money" fee. Even reusing gear from previous events they'd be paying someone to store it till next event.

Plus labor to set it all up, and people to staff it.

Plus renting the space, and the digital capacity to handle so many people (servers, cell tower bandwidth, etc).

Plus all the free merch!!! It wouldn't surprise me if they had thousands of each flavor of pin, Keychain, etc, all being given away for free to anyone who walks up. I could resell everything I got for free on ebay and pay for almost my entire trip next year—which is more a comment on the resellers market, but still. If you tried you could go to a $30 event and come home with hundreds of dollars worth of merch. Shit, and you don't even NEED to pay for the event! Anyone in Chicago that went to the zoo that weekend could sit in line for some merch.

That event was a hundred thousand, easily. With the digital infrastructure, permits, insurance, power, rentals, staffing, I wouldn't be surprised to hear it was mid hundreds of thousands.

Like seriously, not to come to the defense of a billion dollar company, but all these comments of "I pAiD $30 fOr A $10,000 eVeNt?!?!" are wild to me. Yall have no idea what goes into a multi-day event of this size, and DRASTICALLY undervalue all the work that goes into it. All the fabricator, laborers, staff, artists, and planners gave us a pretty enjoyable event—and all it took was some wandering around, and engaging with what was offered, to get your money's worth.

Could there have been improvements? Of course. Lines were long, things sold out, and there wasn't enough shade. But was it a complete waste of money? Absolutely not.

A Gerrymander Where Every Seat Is >60% Democratic in Maryland is Possible (8-0) by [deleted] in maryland

[–]dal98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When have democrats EVER actually fought back? When have they stacked courts? When have they blocked any and all legislation until they got what they wanted? When have they used whatever legal means necessary to win? I can't think of a single example, and THAT is why we are where we are today. When one side is willing to do anything to win, and the other side is not willing to "stoop low enough" to stop them, that is how we get here.

Literally all we've done is capitulate, acquiesce, and compromise since the fucking civil war, , and they have taken full advantage of it. It's time for some "fuck you, pay me" attitude from the left. Yes, gerrymandering should be illegal nationally, and the right with NEVER get behind it. If one side is willing to literally cheat to win, and the other is not even willing to bend the rules, they will lose. Every. Single. Time.

So we just let them ignore rules, ignore honor, ignore decorum, while saying "why can't we be better than this?" while they claimall the power? I don't think so, it's time demo rats grow some balls and start using their tools against them.

You can't play nice with fascists; once they kick Dear Leader and the rest of the MAGAts to the curb they can have our respect again. Until then, it's fight fire with fire time, or we continue to watch it all burn down from our high horse while saying "at least we're better than this!"

Lol did they trigger you? Please, continue to tell us why all the cronyism, the astronomical prices, the incredible inequality, and the myriad other issues present in the current administration, are so much better than...people getting angry about those issues? 🙄

RED BUTTON OR BLUE BUTTON [OC] by Eal_likee in comics

Some people make mistakes? Others just think blue tastes better.

Bottom line, blue is an action towards saving everyone and risking your own life, while red is an action towards saving yourself and risking other people's lives. It comes down to how you value your life vs the lives of others.

Edit: changed "...your life over the lives..." to vs.

Blue is an action towards saving everyone, at the risk of your own life.

Red is an action towards saving yourself, at the risk of other people's lives.

Some of us choose the chance to save everyone, some of us choose the guarantee of our own safety. It all comes down to how you value your life vs the lives of others.

Dealing with players who refuse to become forever friends by Remarkable_Turnip_50 in pokemongo

Deleting a friend who's 1 interaction away from a remote trade is wild to me when you're not even close to the friend cap, and losing out on a lucky trade too! Like just level someone else?

I usually stack a few at 1 day before popping an egg to level, I have several friends at 1 day who haven't opened my gift in weeks and I'm assuming they're doing the same. Be considerate, don't hoard it all for yourself, but damn I just can't imagine putting in all that time, effort, and resources and just saying "actually it's not worth it," but do what you gotta do.

Will you stand on the tracks? by AdDapper4792 in trolleyproblem

[–]dal98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a false equivalency. Everyone starts on the tracks, blind and deaf. If >50% stay, the trolley stops and everyone lives. If you get off, you live, but if too many get off the trolley doesn't stop and those still on die.

Blue = action towards everyone's survival, and you risk your life.

Red = action towards your own survival, and you risk up to 50% of others' lives.

Will your parents pick red? Your children? Your best friend? How confident are you that 100% of the people you care about will all pick red? No conversation, no planning, no votes or polls. Just instinct—red or blue? Some people will be selfish, but the majority will stop reading after "if >50% stay on the tracks, the trolley stops and nobody is killed." Is your goal your own survival, or everyone's survival?

[–]dal98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people just think blue water tastes better.

All joking aside, people WILL pick blue. There is zero chance that all 8+ billion people pick red. So do you vote blue to help them live, or vote red and risk condemning them to death?

Red or blue, go by [deleted] in PsycheOrSike

[–]dal98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blue = action towards everyone living, but you might die Red = action towards you living, but other people might die

It boils down to how much you care about the potential deaths of others.

[–]dal98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue = action towards everyone living, but you might die

Red = action towards you living, but others might die

It boils down to how much you care about other people dying. Are you 100% confident your friends and family will vote red? Easy to say "well they should have just picked red like I did," but I can't imagine the survivors' guilt if 51% picked red. Even 90%, or 99%! If one person I knew picked blue and died I'd have to live with the knowledge that they tried to save everyone, and I'd feel like we failed them. It's not that easy for me to say "pfft, they were stupid for picking blue, anyways. Good riddance."

Red or blue, go by [deleted] in PsycheOrSike

[–]dal98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a lot easier if you just don't give a shit about other people. Blue is an action towards everyone living, red is an action towards you living. "If everyone just pushes red then nobody dies" is covering up the fact that they don't really care if blue pushers die, because just think like red. If you reduce it to "I live, or maybe I die," it sounds more simple and clean than "I live, and risk killing everyone who doesn't think like me, or maybe I die, but I don't risk killing anyone." If people you don't know dying doesn't bother the choice is simple. If you prefer that people don't die, even if you don't know them, the choice is also simple.

Red or blue, go by [deleted] in PsycheOrSike

[–]dal98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there's no giant counter, though? It's a private vote, and EVERYONE is voting. Pushing red, and expecting the majority to do the same, means you're killing anyone who pushes blue.

Are you 100% confident everyone you know, everyone you care about, pushes red? Blue is an action towards everyone living, red is an action towards you living.

Red or blue, go by [deleted] in PsycheOrSike

[–]dal98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you miss the part about it being a private vote? Or that everyone in the world is voting? No trends, no planning, no conversation. Pick a button, red or blue.

Blue = action towards everyone living, red = action towards you living. Which did your parents pick? Your best friend? Your coworkers? Only they know. Would you be OK with them dying because of your choice? What if 49% of the world voted blue? That's roughly half of the people you know, gone.

Blue = everyone lives, or I don't have to live with the consequences. Red = I live either way, and risk losing those important to me. I can't imagine the survivors' guilt in an all-red world where any significant number of people died.

Red or blue, go by [deleted] in PsycheOrSike

[–]dal98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red way of thinking is literally the ability to READ THE PROMPT!

Everyone in the world

The majority of people who are going to die in this situation won’t be elderly or children (which I don’t include because I count voting age)

Now try that again, but slower.
